Moving Day!

This past weekend was moving day for my oldest daughter. Her lease was up for her apartment and we planned on meeting her there as soon as we could get there Saturday with our trailer to move all of the furniture. We also loaded up her truck and her husband's truck, as well as her son's car. We got there LATE! Granted it is a 3.25 hour drive from our house, but y husband had trouble getting up. And he did not set the alarm clock. I got up and went outside to feed all of the animals. I thought he would be up when I came back inside. NOPE! He was still crashed and very groggy. Remember, he came up with an unplanned trip to right outside Baton Rouge Friday to go check out an industrial sewing machine. He got the sewing machine and ended up staying up late watching videos about this machine and what it could do, and all of the different stitches it can do. I decided to give him a few more minutes, had a cup of coffee and did some notifications here on myLot. I then went back to the bedroom and got him up. He had several things to do before we left. The plan was for him to do those things while I fed the animals. Instead, I got a quick bath, got dressed and getting our clothes together since it was pretty obvious that we would end up spending the night at their house. We got there around 3 pm and got the trailer almost loaded when the downpour came. Everyone outside got drenched. Luckily, the thunderstorm didn't last long and they already had tarps over the furniture. Everyone came in and changed clothes and the men went back out to tie everything down and secure the load. We hit the road and my husband was still saying we were driving home that night. I wasn't too happy about that. But, there was some intervention from above. One of his headlights on his truck went out. We got to their house just before midnight and unloaded the trailer before heading inside. My son in law had put a big lasagna in the oven and it was ready when we finished unloading the trailer. Since the headlight was out, my hubby decided to stay for the night. We all ate, sat up and talked and then went to bed. Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

That was a long day for you all. Glad it worked out and you got it all done. Bet you were a bit glad the headlight went out on the truck

@kareng - My husband has never been a football fan and I never cared a bit about football.

Husbands seem to make little sense sometimes from what I observe. It seems way too difficult to have tried to drive back that night. I’m glad that did not happen!

There was no need in it at all! Your observations are spot on! They lack common sense a lot of times!!

Yes, they had to go back on Tuesday and pick up a few more things, trash some, and clean up, but all done!

@kareng We tried to do that when we moved but the Electric company shut the electricity off at the old house before they'd turn it on at the new house so we couldn't do much to clean the house before the new owner showed up.

@DaddyEvil You must of moved very close! They were 3.5 hours away so no problems with that.

Yeah, I have to say, on a trip like that, I'd have stayed at a hotel. I just can't do that kind of stuff anymore.

It's ruff getting older. You always think you can do more than you actually can!! That trip to Baton Rouge on Friday really threw the hubby off!

@kareng I have grown to know better. The longer drives and longer days just kill me. I avoid it at all costs. lol

@MarieCoyle That is the perfect thing to do!! My son in law loves to cook and I was thinking that he was going to insist on doing it because he was the first one to get there. We had the trailer behind us and my daughter followed to make sure nothing tipped over or bounced out hitting a pothole, or the tarps came off. He actually beat us by a good 45 min. I actually thought he was putting food on then. Wrong! Turned out he has been having ea/gland problems and wanted something easy to chew! And easy clean up! So big win for all!

@kareng Over the years I have moved so much. I just know it's so exhausting, you reach the point that you appreciate any help anyone can offer you. I can no longer help people move, usually I just fix some food and take it to them if it's appropriate. I figure that's helping, too.

It was!! Got a plumbing issue taken care of Sunday afternoon and finished unloading both trucks. My daughter said she had everything unpacked and put away Monday night. I don't know how she did that!

Sounds like an adventurous day but any day ending with lasagna and family sounds good to me

Yes, and on narrow country roads, wasn't worth the chance! Especially since we were both exhausted!
