Were you ever friends with your boss?

My sister and her family are going to Gulf Shores, Alabama, at the end of August. My BIL’s old boss moved there, and his old boss and his wife asked them to come visit so they could visit and see the kids (his boss and wife don’t have kids). They said they have plenty of room so they are actually staying at their home.
Discounting relatives, I would have a hard time not being able to relax with others staying in my home. That would be anxiety of my own making, certainly not them. I thought it was really cool they wanted them there, and I hope they get in a nice visit.
His old boss might try to get my BIL to start a side business too, but he’s been trying to do that for awhile.
I have been friendly with my bosses, but never “hang out after work” kind of friends.

I have been friends with some of my bosses and, sometimes that friendship continues after I changed jobs. It always depends on the type of person the boss was whether I invited them to my house or was invited to their home(s).
Some friends I invite to stay with us and others I don't... It depends on how well I like the person/people and whether Pretty gets along with them okay... (She usually hides in her bedroom when someone comes over anyway, if they come to see me.)

@AmbiePam It would be weird if I didn't consider her feelings before inviting someone over.

Yeah, some of my bosses have been nice, but I wouldn't say we were buddies although one paid for us to come to Florida all expenses paid including a rental car we got at the airport. This was a prize though awarded at a Christmas party.

@AmbiePam It was, I was talking about it with friend one day because he went with me. I didn't remember the rental car piece...but he said it was part of the package. I was wondering how we got around there..but the rental car makes sense.

People here have encouraged me to get into a program called "SHARE" where one rents a room from an elderly person. That's just not my thing--and I wouldn't really want a roommate my own age, either--particularly not a stranger. I need my space.
I've been friendly with a few of my bosses--though not super buddy-buddy. There have been some that really rubbed me the wrong way.

I had one boss that I was friends with. We spent time together after work. Everyone thought we were sisters.

My boss in my first full time job was great, I was very fond of her and we stayed in touch and planned to do things together, like concerts and theatre outings - although we didn't get around to actually doing a lot of them but we meant to! She was the only one I was actually real friends with though.

No, I have never been ‘friends’ with my boss. I guess it depends on your job as well as the people.

I used to be friends with my boss lady. She said I was part of the family. Due to a situation that is too long to relate, we left on bad terms and I haven't heard from her since.

Like you I've been friendly with a few bosses I worked for but not in a social way. When I taught school however, I was very good friends with some of my teaching colleagues and socialized with them outside work.

I don't hang out with my boss and wouldn't stay in their house unless it was an emergency like a serious earthquake. Many people in this area had to stay in other peoples homes after the huge fires in this area.

I've never been "outside of the office" friends with any of my bosses.
The only out of town guests I've had stay at my house were relatives. I always hosted holidays and my aunt & uncle would travel so they would stay over. My kids were young and didn't mind giving up their room for our guests.
