Would You Go Back?

Would you go back in time? So many people I've talked to have said no. What's done is done. I'm a better person because of what I've gone through. My past has shaped who I am You can't go back.
BUT what if you could?
Suppose you were given the opportunity to change just ONE thing in your past. Would you do it? What would it be?
I made a huge, gigantic, enormous mistake in my past; and that's the one thing I would change. I would prefer 100 do-overs because there are things that I didn't say, things that I did say, things that I didn't do and things that I did do that I would change. But in this scenario I am only given one chance.
What about you?

If I eradicated my mistake, it would not change the future. It would alleviate me of a lot of guilt.

@LindaOHio - It is possible. I remember that years ago I read a great book by Stephen Kind, a man traveled in the past to save JFK... well nothing good happened later.

you’re touching on something a lot of people wrestle with — that tension between acceptance of the past and the fantasy of a single, surgical edit to it.
If we’re speaking hypothetically (and without any time paradoxes or butterfly-effect disasters), choosing just one thing can feel almost impossible because every decision is tangled with others. But it’s also revealing — the thing we’d change usually points to a moment we still carry deep in our hearts.

I think we all have things in our lives we could have changed or done differently. But I think we need to remember that it is because of those things that we are who we are today. I would go back in time for a period of time but I wouldn't want to stay there. I could see my BFF again. That would be nice But I also made a lot of mistakes and I don't want to go through them again. I'm a curious person so I would like to go into the future more than the past I think. See what I will miss when I am gone. See how my kids do in the future. Things like that.

If I had more than one do-over, I would not have asked my husband to get the package off of the porch.

Everyone has a regret or two, big or small. What has happened to us throughout the course of our lives has helped to shape the person we are today. If we could go back, would we be the same? Could we really ''fix'' what happened, or change it? Was it even possible?
If a person has a huge regret, did something or said something they now think they never should have done, going back won't fix it, even if we could. Would it alter our future? Would it make a difference, or improve our lives in some way? Sometimes, we just have to let things go...

You can't go back...you can only go forward. Like the saying says, ''Don't look back. You're not going that way'' and you're not. It's not possible. Honestly? Everyone has at least one regret, something they mentally kick themselves over and over for. Like I said, work on letting it go. Guilt is not going to fix it, whatever it was, it happened and it's over now.

Man, I don’t know. I don’t want to have to go through the same hardships. Not that I’m doing great now. I know a lot of my mistakes would be getting medical help long before I did. If I had been married though, I’m sure I’d have a lot of mistakes going through my head.

@LindaOHio Well one thing was I could have gone to Temple to get an MSW, but I didn't do it, because I wanted to stay in the State College area with my then boyfriend..Huge mistake. Actually, if I had really leaned into career prep, I would have studied speech path to begin with..would have been a much better option..but I didn't even know anything about it until I was a junior in college.

I guess I will, just to enjoy again the good stuff when I was young, lo! Of course, I will never go back to where I need to do a lot of reviewing for an exam and lots of assignments, nor go back to where my mom gave me my well-deserve spanking because of my stubborn head, lol! But I would love to go back to where my mom takes me to the bakeshop every day to buy me a piece of cake for my school snacks, and go back to the time my mom will always buy me an ice cream and other sweet snacks after picking me up from school. Heheheh I would love to see again the sunshine that I always enjoy whenever I am at school or playing with my cousins, especially on weekends...
I'll go back just to experience the good old days, but will never change a thing.

Always too painful and too much on the mind I would not. Besides it is said that even if people could go back to a certain time and age they would just do all the same things again because that was how it had to be

@LindaOHio I understand your thoughts but they say if it had to happen it would happen again not matter what and you certainly don't want to go through all that again do you? He is released from his wordly problems and now can watch over you and wait for you on the other side,

Your question does elicit great thought. Of course there are a million things I'd love to go back in time to change (especially knowing what I know now), but like you said all those past experiences (good and bad) have made us who were are today. Also, what if we were to go back and change one mistake we've made in our past, and it changes the entire future (who we are and where we are today)? I may be satisfied with that one thing I went back to fix, but I might totally be disgusted of what it made me become in current time.

Knowing all the past mistakes I made it would be interesting to go back in time and have a do-over. You kind of wonder how or if things would turn out differently.
I would have changed my job choice. I had 2 teaching offers at the same time. I always wondered if I made the right decision.

Yes. Most of the changes I would make wouldn't affect my future. The one major one would just alleviate a lot of guilt.
