Fascinations

What things fascinate you the most? I have to say that weather is among the things that I can watch and am fascinated by. This time of the year the farmer's almanac releases their forecast for the upcoming winter season. And, being fascinated by the weather, I read it. It sounded very familiar to me, almost like last winter's forecast was. More storms, which I see is a growing trend with severity of storms, regardless of the season. This is as a result of the earth's global warming effect. The first hurricane, Aaron, is expected to hit our eastern provinces within the next week. That is early. We are going away, within our province the last week of August. I have checked the long term forecast for that region already. The weather will not make or break the holiday, but I like to look things up so that I can pack and plan our days properly. What fascinates you? ~map of the Great Lakes, I reside in the middle of the 3 on the right hand side

Speaking of weather I guess, we hope to see the meteor showers tonight. Last night was too cloudy and we had an almost full moon.

We were not able to see any of the meteor showers last night but there was something that was seen in the skies, and it turned out to be part of a rocket that was launched yesterday from Nasa. I would never have thought it would sly around in the skies so far before landing.

@Juliaacv We saw an extremely bright light for a few seconds late last night. Could it have been that rocket?

Animal behavior fascinates me. Why do blue jays have such a bad attitude (which I’ve hilariously seen many times)? Why do opossums plays “possum” as a defensive mechanism, but other animals don’t? How are ants so strong? I love the animal world!

Watching and wondering about the tendancies of animals is interesting as well. I will have to check the weather soon for when we go away.......

I do agree with you. We have dogs and cat and my wife has a variety of beautiful flowers in her mini garden. I love to play with our dogs and cat. And I am delighted to watch the flowers especially when they are blooming.

I would say politics. As nasty and dirty as it can be (especially these days) it is very important and something everyone should know about. Of course, I like to see what is happening with the weather too. It can make or break your week. End of August up there should be nice. Fair chance you will have ideal weather for your trip.

I follow politics also, but I don't like to talk politics-if that makes sense. I was always taught not to discuss religion, politics or money. The long range forecast for Goderich shows rain on the day that we plan on going there. But it will change between now and then, and if not, it is just a driving day anyways.

I am fascinated by Nature in general and I also like to follow the weather forecast. For winter 2025 "La Niña is back" and this will bring colder weather in October and November

That is how I took it also. In this heat it is hard to fathom really cold weather. Time is precious, but it also flies and we will feel those winter winds far too early I fear.

@LadyDuck I could enjoy the autumn weather all of the year around, but it feels so wonderful at that time of the year as it is a reprieve from the terrible summer heat.

Weather can be interesting but for me it's ancient history. I love to find articles about ancient civilizations and people that archeologists and anthropologists write. I also love all the history of the monarchs of England, the family lines change so often and still they're called royal.

I love local history. Whenever we go someplace on holidays, I am always going to a book store to find a book about the area's history. It is a great way to know a little more than what meets the eye when visiting.

I'm fascinated by weather also. My kids laugh at me when I am constantly telling them what the forecast is. We are seeing our first hurricane forming and will probably be causing problems by the weekend.

Sometimes I find it funny how terribly 'off' the forecast can be. The forecast for when we go away is still going to change a few times before we go.

Environmental and weather interests are closely related, one can affect the other. I am keeping my eye on the weather for the weekend that we have to go to a wedding in early September also, as it is at an outdoor venue.

As of now we are having a pleasant weather. I was missing the sunshine during days of incessant downpour.
