My husband's boss didn't know but he handled coral with his bare hands. He got sick and ended up in the Emergency room. He is okay now. But, he learned a lesson when working on his Fish Tank. Do not handle Coral. It's toxic. My husband and I learned something new when we found out about it. We looked it up online and learned more. Did you know that Coral is toxic?

Lessened learned it would seem. I am glad it wasn't more severe. I didn't know it was toxic but a man I watch on YouTube who does jewelry retrieval from the ocean in Florida just picks a small bit up and threw it away. He made some derogatory comment, and I took it he meant it was not good to handle much of it.

@LeaPea2417 ........Yes, it's an interesting watch. I think he's called Detect Florida. He has found some beautiful rings. He finds for tourists and folks that lose their jewelry. Does all for free. Just enjoys the adventure of finding them.

No, I didn't know that. I do know it is very sharp though. You can easily cut yourself on it.

That's true. Certain types of coral can be toxic to humans if handled with bare hands. I'm glad he's okay now.

Oh my God, I live on a coast and I didn't know anything about this, of course, this is another type of beach with more sand than coral. But it's amazing that even at this stage of life one is still learning so many things. In fact, here in Venezuela there are quite a few corals, but if I had traveled and had not known this news first,I think the first thing I would try would be to dive and touch the corals and I think that's what some people do when they take diving classes. I suppose that nothing happens to them because they have the Diving suit that covers your hands, thank God there are posts like these so we don't make mistakes.

I'm thankful to learn about it. I don't snorkel, but I'm sure if I did, I am the type to want to touch any kind of cool looking sea shell, rock or coral.

I thought that those kept in aquariums were not toxic, their toxicity comes from an algae they eat.
