Darn it. Blew out my knee again.

At the cabin, I was crouching a bit to spray paint a lower log when it went partially out. Yesterday, I was just walking, and it blew out. I am getting by with one crutch. I can put a bit of pressure on it, but the pain is pretty intense.
I have been asking my Dr. for over a year to "order" an MRI. I can tell I have garbage in my knee. Perhaps a totally torn meniscus. He recommended "physical therapy." Sometimes it miffs me a bit that some Drs. think of old people as "already dead" and don't want to fix them. I have some things I want to get done before I'm gone.
He is giving me a cortisone shot on Friday. That was scheduled before the latest blow up. I hope I can get an MRI and eventually get this taken care of. The surgery is not that invasive.

Honestly, if he recommends getting your knee repaired, just do it. It won't be that terrible...my aunt had it done at 76 years old and she was up and walking before I ever dreamed she would be. You keep physically fit, you are not a bad candidate for surgery if you need it. Don't be stubborn and end up crippled. It's not fun.

Well, you can get a different doctor, dear. Tell him/her you want it fixed right now...insist on it. Tell him PT isn't going to fix it and you need for your knee to work. Maybe then it will be repaired!

Cortisone can disintegrate your bone..even if it helps in the short term. I would find a new doc who will clear you for the surgery.

@TheHorse I just heard it the other day when I was in a focus group. You could always look online.

@TheHorse I thought you knew. It helps...but you have to get another shot every year. The injection is unbelievable. It looks like the ones they would use for large animals. The thought of doctor using that big an injection on you makes me feel very sorry for you. Evil Grin. Do take some nannies around...lots of tissue as well....injection is...INJECTION.

Many insurance companies require the physical therapy first before they will pay for surgery.

I always used to complain about my right knee. Aging and weight are factors I can see. But two Saturdays ago, I woke up and everything was good until I went to a convenience store, my left knee started hurting. I cannot bend it fully nor kneel or go up and down the stairs without feeling the bits of pain. But I can walk alright

@rakski That's kind of similar to my story. At my best.

Try a different doctor if you're not happy with him. Insurance may be the problem if they don't want to pay for it. Ask.

You can go for a second opinion.
Or fly down to India for a cost effective surgery in a good hospital at a much lower cost than US.
Unless you do not want to enrage MAGA and their chief Trump.
But on a more serious note, consider consulting another doctor.

Oh no, that sounds incredibly painful and frustrating
Dealing with the injury is bad enough without having to fight for proper diagnostics. Hopefully the cortisone shot on Friday provides some relief, and that it finally pushes your doctor to order the MRI you clearly need. Stay strong and keep advocating for yourself—you've got things to do!

Sometimes certain insurances insist you try all the other stuff, like PT and shots before they will approve even an MRI or surgery. I hope you can get it fixed. A knee brace is also a good temporary relief.

I don't think I'd be very happy with the doctor for not ordering that.

Sorry about that and I hope your knee can be taken care of by surgery if you feel that would be better to get you up and dancing, l When my knee gave out I was considering just hobbling about my apartment with my cane, Then after about a week it just went back to normal, and now if I was not scared of falling on my darn head etc I could try a few dance steps,
