After months of delays from weather, scheduling challenges, and the slow march of permits, it’s exciting to finally see real progress on the new wastewater/septic system. By the end of yesterday, the crew had made impressive headway, and as of now they’re back out there installing the second phase. The photo is from yesterday. There is a lot more digging and installing today. This isn’t a standard setup. It’s a specially designed system built for our unique property. Because the land slopes uphill from the house, a sewer ejector pump is needed to push wastewater to a higher elevation. Everything collects in a secure basin, where a powerful pump sends it up into the main sewer tank. The system also includes a biofilter and advanced treatment features that make the treated water suitable for garden use. Often referred to as mound systems, these designs use pressure distribution to overcome difficult site conditions while protecting both the environment and groundwater. Living on a mountainside surrounded by trees and natural obstacles on more than three acres, it truly was the smartest solution for our layout. Running a sewer line all the way to the top of the mountain, where other homes are connected, would have cost nearly $100,000, according to the quote my son received. Seeing it all come together at last brings a real sense of relief. With any luck, we may even have a small New Year’s celebration inside, surrounded by the comfort of knowing this major project is finally nearing completion. We know there will be a few more delays due to the "Godzilla" weather predicted over the next 10 days, but if all goes well, they plan to work indoors during a lot of this. I'm getting excited.

That is totally exciting. You are living in the Washington state wilderness. For sure winter weather is coming in but so far not many frosty nights.

My truck had ice on it yesterday morning. I drive it to Montesano tomorrow to the Chevy dealer and hoping the roads will be OK. Most going that way after driving through Raymond, won't flood but Raymond will from the Willapa River. It's pouring rain but they are still out there working.

@noni1959 Safe travels! That sounds like a place to vacation in, not live year round- if I was in my 30's, I might think differently.

If I could , I would turn cartwheels for you!! Big progress!!! Yay!!! There IS a light at the end of the tunnel in this case, at the end of the project. So this will mean you have power and a septic system, right?

Yes! They still have some wiring to do but the septic is going full force. Since this photo, they have dug a lot out there installing the various lines and a 60 foot wide drain field. It's so interesting watching them. It's raining hard now too but they are pushing along as far as they can today.

It has but in the long run, it's still cheaper than buying a house already done. Just a pain with delays and unexpected expenses. She is doing better, even taking steps with a walker. She still having issues and in a wheel chair. She is being sent to a new neurologist and specialist since her surgeon isn't for long term care. She is frustrated with the weight gain from medication so they are trying to figure that out plus her constant swelling. I hope you are doing well.

Good luck with the project. I've never lived anywhere that had a septic tank - always city plumbing/sewage for me

I've lived at three places with septic but this one is a huge different type. I'm in Washington state in the rain forest so this unit is the best way to go.

That really does look like a huge job. I'm sure you'll be doing the dance of joy once it's finished.
