What do you use condensed milk for?

This discussion is not going to get a lot of responses. But I got two cans of condensed milk to review (you can’t always get jewelry, lol), and I don’t want to make a pie. The internet suggested putting some on fruit or on ice cream. I think it even suggested having it on its own. Anyone have any simple ideas?

I've only ever used it to make 7-layer bars. I did buy a couple of cans a few months ago to make a key lime pie but I never did get around to it. I like the idea of turning it into dulce de leche

7 layer bars is what came to mind for me. The link @RasmaSandra posted had some good ideas.

Is it just condensed milk or is it sweetened condensed milk? If it's sweetened condensed milk and you like caramel, you can just peel the label off the can and put it into a pot of water and boil it, can and all. It will turn into liquid caramel in about 2 to 3 hours, depending on how thick/dark you like your caramel. (Put the can on its side in the room temp water with at least two inches of water above the top part of the can. Bring it to a boil and then turn the heat down and simmer the water to your preferred color/thickness. Let the water/can cool completely before you open it.) I made the thinner caramel and we used it over homemade ice cream. YUM!

@AmbiePam It is good but it makes a full can of caramel. That's fine when I'm not the only one eating it but it was too much for just me.

Oh, Lenore, that’s a great idea! I was just thinking it’s a shame I don’t drink coffee, but I hadn’t thought of cocoa. Thank you. I’m really blessed to get to do that. It sure saves money on dog treats!

I used to love just eating it out of the can. I only use it for a chocolate apricot slice that I make.

I asked my Mom and she says she used to have it on a sandwich, just put condensed milk between two slices of bread and butter ….( it’s not something I would have , but apparently it was popular back in the day ! )

Btw how do you get these things for review? Are you in social media? You do brand reviews and all?

Amazon has a program where they invite some people to get free things in exchange for a review. I’m rarely on social media. I’m bad at that, unfortunately.

I have used it in recipes for home made coffee creamer for Bob. There is a layered cookie bar I have not made in years that uses it as well. All those sweet goodies.

If it's sweetened there are not many ways to use it if you do not want to make a pie, but you can make an ice cream. I use it to make the "Tres Leches" cake.

What sort of pie would you usually make? I just used some to make key lime pie. I often use it for banoffee pie. I guess those are not what you want. It makes great fudge! I also just came across a recipe for cheesecake that seems very simple. Other than that, one time when it was very cold we treated ourselves to hot chocolate made with condensed milk. When you come in from doing stuff outside on a cold day, it seems like the best thing ever! Otherwise though I find it far too sickly. You can also use condensed milk to make ice cream but I have never tried that.

in Jamaica we would use it with Guiness... pour into a cup, add and drink.

@Fleura what we did is pour some Guinness into a glass.. pour some condensed milk. We called it 'a restorative'. It was healthy.
