What is the nicest piece of furniture you have?

Every piece of furniture I have was given to me, although that doesn’t mean it was all used. I have a lovely bookcase my parents got me for my birthday several years ago. I think though, my nicest piece of furniture is like a credenza, where my TV sets on top. I always get compliments on it when someone has to come by for some reason. It is lovely,, but really heavy due to it being real wood. What would your nicest be? Anyone have any antiques? I have my late grandmother’s hope chest, and it lovely (and so heavy), but the credenza is better quality overall.

That sounds nice, the piece of furniture your tv is on. I guess I'd have to say the couch that my grandparents helped us get, they paid for it at the time and we were paying them back for it, until they passed away.

What color is it? My old one used to be red, but the one my stepmom gave me after she got herself a new one is beige.

@AmbiePam Ours is brown. A red couch sounds very interesting. I remember my grandfather got one at an estate sale and my grandma was furious because it was a very ugly couch (a greenish yellow color) - and not very comfortable!

That's a difficult question. I have so many items of furniture that came from various places. I have quite a few pieces made by my Dad, they are relatively modern in style. Then I have several items that came from my Mum and through her, from her parents. They are antique dark wood, not fashionable these days but I like it. I also have a couple of items from my Dad's parents, and an old chair that my Dad said was from his grandmother. I really don't know what I would say was the nicest, I like them all in different ways. They are all solid wood and, apart from the things my Dad made they are all well over 100 years old.

I bet they are really cool. I love old furniture, especially when someone you know made it.

Since we went off grid while waiting on the house completion, we sold and donated a lot. My son and I were talking today trying to remember what we saved beyond our beds. He has a very nice farmhouse look dresser with doors, drawers and a slider. I only have my bed in there. My plan is look for an antique secretary desk that has the glass hutch attached, nice wood small book case, day bed for the flex-living room in case of company and an antique armoire. If I can find what I want, it will be the secretary desk.

We were given a display case by friends and it's probably the nicest thing we own. In fact, I'm sure it is.

We have a bureau/desk that is a family heirloom from my husband's family. Personally, I find it bulky. It's one of those things that looks big and takes up space but isn't particularly practical because you can't fit as much in it as you'd expect. Other than that, I have a nice table and chairs. Well, they were nice when I bought them. The cats have since used the chairs as scratching posts, and the table has wobbly legs. That was the first proper furniture I bought myself when we moved in to where I live now. I'd won some money on a scratchcard and I found the table and chairs for the amount I'd won. It's about 12 years old and is being used as my office space most of the time.

I sold all our furniture we had in Switzerland and bought new pieces of furniture to furnish this apartment when we moved here. So no more antiques, but I still bought real wood.

I have a nice bedroom set and cedar chest; but the piece of furniture I enjoy the most is my electric recliner. I spend all my time in it; and it's very comfortable.

I would say the hutch cabinet we have in the living room is best because of its functionality. Like you I put my TV inside the open space about the lower cabinets. It also has side extensions which I can close to conceal the TV.

Since Zi have downsized twice, I did hive several pieces of furniture to my children. But I still have aunt’s lovely and treasured Lane cedar chest, a small and very intricately carved table with a black marble insert that belonged to my paternal grandmother, my nightstands I redid that I shared the picture with you, and one tall dresser my maternal great grandmother had. The kids know the history to these thing and I know they will give them all a good home when I no longer need them. I’m glad you have your credenza.

Perhaps my work table is the best piece of furniture in my room. It is quite large enough to contain everything I need.

I have some antique dressers very fine construction that used to belong to former mother in law. They have very deep drawers. They work for me, as I have so many freaking clothes..have of which I should get rid o.

What nice furniture? Anything that was anything was left behind in Latvia or thrown out. I have something to sit on and a bed to lie in,
