New Neighbors Are Moving In

I met the new neighbors yesterday. They're moving into the house the drug dealers lived in and seem like lovely people. I gave them my phone number in case they need anything. They were telling me that they had two smaller dogs and would be putting up a new fence around their back yard. (The drug dealers kept a dog chained up back there. Their dog was always digging under the fence and would growl and snap at Pretty and I when it got loose. I started calling the dog pound when it was in our yard. I'm scared of some dogs. If they act hostile, I don't get around them and don't want them coming around me.) I mentioned the last people who lived there had a dog that kept digging under the fence and getting out. They assured me their dogs weren't dangerous. I guess we'll find out. I hope they're correct.

Hope your new neighbors are nice people and that the dog is friendly and doesn't dig under the fence.

@DaddyEvil it's always a bit unsettling when you get new neighbors.

@DaddyEvil that would annoy me if I knew the neighbors could see right into my house. Maybe blinds ?? It would allow light in but still provide privacy

I hope their dogs are good dogs not dangerous and that do not bark all the time. I fear large dogs, but usually get along well with smaller dogs that are not aggressive.

Aggressive dogs worry me. I hope they're well-behaved, too. The new neighbors said they are moving here from the country and their dogs aren't used to being blocked from running all over the place.

@DaddyEvil - I cross the road if I see a dog that looks aggressive coming toward me, even if the dog is at leash. Let's hope those dogs will not be an annoyance.

Well, it bodes well for the dogs that the owners are nice people. You don’t usually get mean dogs without mean owners. At least I hope that is the case for your neighbors. I’m so glad it seems like they are good people; you deserve good neighbors!

Thank you! It looks like the fence they're installing the dogs won't be able to dig under. They're sinking proper fenceposts with wire that goes down into the ground. Now, the question is how much do the dogs bark? (We still haven't seen the dogs yet. They're kenneled with some family until everything is ready here for them. )

@DianneN I really hope they aren't, too. Neighbors down the street have barkers but we don't often hear them. (They keep their pups inside most of the time. )

@DaddyEvil That’s the type of fence all dogs should have. I guess we’ll have to wait for a post from you to know whether or not you have barkers. I hope not!

I hope they end up being good neighbors and good dogs too. Time will tell. That was nice of you to give them your phone number in case they need anything.

I hope they turn into lovely neighbors and keep their dog from over barking or getting out. The two times I was attacked by dogs were "friendly" and not dangerous. Both were little "devil" dogs. A pug and chihuahua. Last year, I had an instance in a state park while hosting. Someone didn't follow the rules and keep the dog on a shorter leash and the first two times I went around, it was friendly. The third, came at me snarling. My ranger had to get involved since they wouldn't listen to shorten the leash and keep the dog out of the road. They tried to claim the dog was not dangerous.

Sometimes dogs that "aren't dangerous" are the worst ones. Thanks. I hope I never have to deal with their dogs.

I'm very wary of big dogs in particular and all dogs if they don't seem friendly.

Me, too. Even if most dogs seem to like me on sight, that doesn't make them friendly to Pretty. Once I start petting them, then she can move in and the dogs will accept her. Without me there, they're as likely to bite as to let her get close to them.

@DaddyEvil I never try to pet them. I let them come to me if they want to and I give them the back of my hand to smell.

Thanks. So far they're fairly quiet. They're digging holes for posts around their front yard for a fence, presumably for the dogs.

I heard that dogs would be nice to us humans if we feed them.... try to throw them a burger and let us know if it would work

And what if the owners have them on a special diet? They might get upset if I feed their dogs. (The dogs haven't appeared yet.) Burger meat is too expensive to want to feed somebody else's dogs.

I just don't want to hear the dogs barking all the time. Somebody across the street in the next neighborhood have dogs that bark and howl a LOT of the time.

Fortunately or unfortunately we don't have new neighbours in our locality. We are permanent dwellers and so are my neighbours. Neither we nor any of them have pet dogs. I'm glad to know the neighbours you have are nice people. I hope they and their dogs will never cause any problem for your family.

Thank you. I always hope we get along well with neighbors. The older couple who live on the other side of us are nice and normally quiet. Their kids and grandkids aren't always quiet when they visit their parents/grandparents but we ignore them and their noise.

@valherma00 True... When the grandkids started playing loud music in the front of the house, I went to see who it was and the grandparents told them to shut off the music. I usually can't hear their music when they do that in the back yard. If they get too noisy, I will call the police and have their party shut down.
