Do you get into “craft” activities?

I was sent a DIY kit with these taper candles, and wax pens of different colors. You could decorate them for Valentine’s Day, or just whatever floats your boat. It seemed like something to do on a day spent inside. I also was sent this free 3D Effect Foam Texture Painting Kit that I think I’m going to ask Diana if she wants to do with me. I could also do it myself when we get into the single digits this weekend. I’m not accustomed to craft “kits”, but I’m trying to keep my mind off things, and this seemed as good a way as any. My mom, back when she was really sick in her early thirties (back when she was taken to the Mayo Clinic) would paint and decorate shirts, and she got really got good at that, and outfitting trapper keepers (remember trapper keepers?). She’s put fabric on them, sew names of my friend on the front fabric, and give them as Christmas gifts. My friends loved them.

That sounds so fun! I’ve been wanting to do a craft activity too, though mine would just be a scrapbook. Even so, I think it’ll be a nice way to keep busy and get creative.

A scrapbook is a great idea. My sister did one for my parent’s then 25th anniversary, and it looked phenomenal.

My mom was a really talented amateur painter. She even won some ribbons in local art contests. Anyway, she used to make Christmas Angels out of wire and beads and taught me how to do it. I'm not much of a craftsman but it was fun to do, and I even sold some at a flea market.

I used to do way more crafts than I do now but I do love crocheting and reading (does reading count?) My daughter got a diamond painting kit for Christmas so she's looking forward to doing it. I do remember trapper keepers (my kids had then when they were in school). I think you would enjoy doing those kits and it is relaxing.

I'm not crafty. I'm kind of trying to learn to knit again. Daughter is encouraging me to draw.

That would be great! If your daughter is encouraging you to draw them you must have talent. Amyra tried to teach me to draw something simple. She was so endearing with her encouragement, but there is no drawing talent to be had here.

@AmbiePam I have no talent. Daughter says since we encouraged her when she was little she wants to encourage me. Plus we all write and have learned to critique honestly but gently. I find that even drawing loops and circles is kind of meditative- huge bonus- when I am drawing my hands are occupied and can't grab a cookie or chip.

Before my hands got so arthritic I loved needlework projects - embroidery, needlepoint, petit point, etc. Have fun!

My grandmother was so good at that. I wish I knew how to.

I like crafts, but usually my favorite thing to do similar to what is called crafting, is sewing. I do like to repurpose things, and to refinish small furniture sometimes, too. It's fun and I enjoy giving something a new life. You and Diana would have fun doing that together. And OH, do I ever remember trapper keepers. Every kid had to have one.

Yes, trapper keepers were so important, and everyone wanted the coolest ones! Sewing is definitely crafting. My mom did a lot of sewing with her crafting too.

@AmbiePam I know my oldest daughter pretty much loved that trapper keeper. Funny--I remember the phase of them starting and their popularity, but I don't remember them fading out. But they did.

I am crafty, but I have never been interested by candles. I like to work on fabric like your Mom, to decorate glass jars also.

I used to make candles and give them away to friends... I still have all the candle making supplies out in the garage somewhere. They didn't come into the house last time we moved and I have no clue where they are out there.

Thank you. I’m hoping I really get into it. Life on disability gets monotonous when you’re not even sure how long you can literally stand to walk your dog.

We need you to get into making candles. You know what good ones smell like. Not that you’d ever do it.

In my teen years, I loved doing them like holiday greetings cards or any special occasions and send them to my friends, relatives and family members. But now I am not doing them.
