My older son bought a new house two blocks from his old one 1 1/2 years ago. It’s a Tudor with a turret and somewhat contemporary on the inside. It’s quite huge at 6680 square feet.
Each bedroom room has its own ensuite, there’s at least 8 rooms on the first floor that I remember, my guest bedroom
, a basement with a full kitchen, a ping pong table room, a pool table room, a family room, a separate hang out room, an office for my son, a laundry room with a spiral staircase into the the main kitchen, and a sauna.
Outside are several heated patios and an inground pool with fabulous landscaping everywhere.
I asked him why he would buy such a huge house with my grandson away at boarding school most of the year and my granddaughter going off to college next year. His reply was that it was the only one that was for sale in the area he and his wife liked. Such problems I wish I had!
Since I don’t have many photos, I will share some of his home with you. The foyer, in my opinion, is the best!

That is a huge house. Ours is just over 2000 and that's too big for me.

It looks nice, but alof of house if no one is there most of the time. Maybe they can plan on doing a lot of entertaining or something, or invite the kids to come with friends when they visit.

So true. My grandson brings lots of his friends from school when they have vacations and it’s too far for them to travel home. My DIL has a big family, so she entertains a lot and hosts get-togethers for all the organizations she belongs to. And my granddaughter always has her 18 million friends over. My son is usually cooking dinner or working in his office.

@snowy22315 Thanks, and we’ve been there for visits and holidays. I still can’t find the bathroom without help. For real!

That is a big house. How many maids does he and his wife have?

@DianneN It's funny, when I went to the US I was surprised at the number of people who had cleaners, cooks, nannies and all sorts of staff. I had got the impression that America was the land of equality, away from all that old-fashioned aristocratic kind of life!

@Fleura With so many mothers working, it’s often necessary to have help at home. I also had cleaners mostly because my mother had them. My daughter-in-law also had them for the same reason, but needed nannies when she went back to work. Now that I am retired, I still use my cleaning lady, and since hubs is getting on in years, we use lawn services to care for our yard. The only thing I would love is a cook when I don’t feel like cooking. That would be every night

That's a huge house! I hope he and his wife love it.
Our last house was 2,000 sq ft and Pretty and I rattled around inside it. When it sold 9 years ago, the only thing we could find for rent here was this 750 sq ft house which is too small, in our opinion, but we took it anyway. We're getting used to the cramped feeling but we don't have room for overnight guests anymore.
We also don't want to move again so this house will have to do. *shrug*

That's just huge, a castle! But oh, it does sound like so much work to care for and clean. More power to them!

He should invite friends often. I would feel lonely in such a big house. It looks lovely.

They do. They have had workers in their last house which was very large, but not nearly as large as this one. They had a wonderful maid in their apartment houses, too, and needed nannies when my DIL went back to work. The nannies were the best. The last one still is in contact with the family and is a dancer in the city.

That looks fabulous.
But not easy to maintain for a person like me!
Mine is an apartment with 3 bedrooms and live with my wife only for the past eighteen years.
Our son went for studies in Australia and then London where he is settled now.
We purchased it in 1992.

Thank you! They hire help for the inside and outside. I think it’s humanly impossible to care for it themselves.
Your home sounds like the perfect size. I remember that your son has been working in London. It’s such a wonderful city. I have only been there 2 or 3 times and my son goes a couple of times a year for business.

That's a lovely home. Your son and his family are truly blessed. I still live in a 4 BR home. I don't have a desire to move to a smaller home because I like the house and the neighborhood; and I don't want to move to a senior home just yet.

@DianneN I'm assuming you would never move to FL permanently because of the kids and grandkids?
