I got a text message from the neurologist's office telling me to set up the next appointment at their online portal with a link to it. Pretty took my phone and set up the appointment. The soonest they could get me in will be September 3rd at 9:40 am.
At least it won't be dark going to the appointment or coming home from it.

@DaddyEvil - I always do the same for my husband, often we can obtain a shorter waiting time.

@LadyDuck A couple of months ago I was on a waiting list and they called while I was asleep. When I woke up and tried to accept the new time, they said it was too late. *shrug*

Pretty got me on the waiting list if somebody cancels their appointment. Maybe we can get in faster than that.

My regular doctor doesn't know yet. I don't think she'll be happy about it, either, but there's not much she can do. Pretty did sign up for an earlier appointment if someone cancels.

@DaddyEvil Maybe your doctor can do a little maneuvering. When my dad was being put off for surgery (for his neck) his doctor raised some heck. He said it was way too serious to wait months to get to.
At least you’re on the list for cancellation. I’ll be praying you get one soon.

@AmbiePam Thank you.
Somebody else canceling their appointment worries me. WHY did they cancel? Did they pass away or did they find a better doctor somewhere?

It's pathetic isn't it? My grandson went in for his annual in December. A specialist's office called that same day and we make an appointment. The soonest he can get in is in April. I keep calling every few weeks to see if he can get in sooner. No such luck.

@DaddyEvil ......Thanks. Yeah, so much can happen before a person can get in to see a specialist.

Pretty said she'd check every few weeks trying for a closer appointment date.
I hope you can get a quicker appointment for your grandson. Good luck!

@DaddyEvil hmm...what will happen if someone has an urgency and can't wait for so many months?.

@sjvg1976 Then the doctors try to "work him in" and see him sooner.
Where have you been lately? I've wondered when you'd show up again.

I can't choose when the appointment happens. They assign me a day and time when they have openings and I have to show up.

Yeah, they say the more specialized doctors are overworked. I don't know if that's true but all specialists have waiting lists.

@just4him The other specialists I see always make me wait six months so this one isn't too much worse.

Oh my God !! Such a long wait. It's mid February. Don't you think it is too long?? What will you do if you have any problem before September??

Even if I thought that was too long to wait, there's nothing I can do about it.
I'm having problems now. All I can do is wait.

That is horrifying. I can't imagine having to wait 7 months for an appointment. Are there not a lot of doctors in your area? Here in Connecticut it would never take that long. My daughter's MIL has a nurse advocate that gets her appointments with a specialist within days.

@DaddyEvil My husband had Parkinson's so we had regular neurologist visits.

@BelleStarr I've never had anything wrong with my brain before. I just get dizzy easily and, now, I've been diagnosed with hydrocephalus or water on the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain, putting pressure where it shouldn't causing me problems. Mentally, I'm fine but I'm having motor skills issues.

I think they're just really busy in this part of the US. My appointments are always months away. This is an appointment with a neurologist. I've never been to one of those before.

I see three other specialists because of Graves' Disease. I wait six months for each of them.

I'm not sure how serious it is... It was diagnosed as hydrocephalus when I was x-rayed in the ER a few days ago. (I have been falling in the house lately but didn't know why I get dizzy. After I fell and banged my face/nose into the kitchen counter and then fell and hit my head on my dresser, Pretty made me go in to make sure I hadn't broken my nose or given myself a concussion.)
I don't get to choose when a doctor can see me. They tell me a day and time to be there.

There aren't enough specialists here. I'm lucky to get an appointment. I've heard of people waiting a year or more for a specialist to see them. My other specialists kept me waiting for six months before they could see me.

Me, too. I can manage that long, at least, hanging onto walls and doorframes to move through the house.

Most of the time, the longest we wait for an appointment with a specialist here is six months but, for special cases, it can be over a year. IF there is a real need to rush an appointment, then the doctors can choose to "work a person in" earlier than that.
