This goat isn't dead

I’ve talked about my sister and nephew owning lots of dairy goats. The Nigerian Dwarf goats are due to kid soon and most of the does have at least two kids with triplets being very common. They are quite small animals but develop huge bellies when pregnant. This one is resting with its legs sticking up in the air. Despite what it looks like, it isn’t dead although my nephew says they often scare him into thinking they are when they lay down in this way. I’m sure they’ll all be glad to get rid of their babies.

I don't know much about goats so I wonder are these goats any bigger than a cocker spanial?

Maybe a bit bigger than that but they're very solid. Here are some babies with their 'toys'. Hopefully the photo will load.

That's probably the only way they can get comfortable when they're pregnant.

Oh, I thought it was one of those fainting goats! But it definitely looks pregnant; it’s very cute.

The poor things must find that position comfortable. I well remember the feeling at the very last, wanting to be able to just go have my baby!

Yes. By the end of nine months, you can't wait to get rid of that baby.

I had guessed it was maybe a "fainting goat" but this is funnier.

Aw, poor baby. No wonder goats are so mean and stubborn…having that kind of misery in pregnancy!

They need to feel comfortable and take care of babies inside them too. Motherly instincts for protection and survival, I think.

My dog likes to sleep with its legs sticking up in the air too. It is a funny position.

They have learned to be comfortable in an advanced state of pregnancy.
