Death by chocolate

Yesterday we went on a bus trip to the Swan Valley on the outskirts of Perth with other residents from our village. One of the places we visited was a chocolate factory. We were given a few samples and wandered through the shop which also offered a lot of gifts and kitchen wares. Although there were dozens of lovely things, they were all quite expensive. We had coffee and cake in the shop. Vince and I shared a chocolate éclair. Very yummy. The photo is Vince’s and shows a ‘tree’ made of chocolate.

I wonder how long it took to mold all the pieces and put the tree together? Why do shops like that always charge rich people prices?

@BarBaraPrz Yeah, probably... And people will pay those prices, too.

@BarBaraPrz Haha. You're probably right! In fact, I'm sure you are. There is no competition nearby, either for the chocolates or the lovely giftware that they were displaying.

Do you have freckles there? They are a small chocolate disc covered in hundreds and thousands. They had them for sale there and they were the size of dinner plates!

@JudyEv - I cannot remember that I ever say freckles here. I checked online what they look like and I do not believe I ever saw them. Not something we would like anyway.

@LadyDuck I don't like them but the dinner-plate ones really put me off!

Very cute, but also a bit overwhelming. We just finished a big restaurant meal and chocolate does not even sound appealing.

I do know the feeling. We had a lovely lunch with a very rich dessert and that was us done for the rest of the day.

Isn't that fancy? It must have smelled really good in the chocolate factory.

I was very good and didn't buy anything but I did have half of Vince's chocolate eclair with my coffee.

I have a friend who is a bonified chocoholic, she'd be in seventh heaven if she had a chance to go there. I love that photo and they way they set up that display.

They had a 'city' sculpted from chocolate too.

Yes but it's behind glass so you can't break off a branch.

What a nice photo. It's really great and wonderful making such a tree out of chocolates. Is it edible?

@JudyEv Yes that was really difficult and lots of work only to be eaten.

Yes, it's edible but I don't think they'll dismantle it for a while as it would be too difficult to make it very often. .

It took a lot of time for sure. Even with using a mold the decorating would take a lot of time

It would certainly be hard to do. I wonder how long it's been there. lol You wouldn't want to do a new one every week, would you?

That looks and sounds like such a fun day. A big thumbs up for an eclair (yummy) That chocolate tree is amazing. I bet it took a long time for them to make it. I would be tempted to steal a piece

The tree was behind glass which was probably a very good thing. There was a 'city' behind glass too.

@JudyEv I was thinking that it should be behind glass so no one would just take it upon themselves to eat that chocolate (or sneeze on it, etc).

I love that tree! But yes things can be expensive. Years ago I remember at some craft fair there was a couple selling chocolate objects. They were so cool, they had all sorts of things like shoes and kitchen utensils, I remember they also had adjustable spanners that actually adjusted! People were loving looking at all they had to offer but were not so keen when it came to actually buying them. Obviously there must have been a significant amount of work involved and that was reflected in the prices, but people didn't want to pay that.

I can understand both the pricing and the reluctance to buy. And, in the end, you can only eat it. But I'd love to see the adjustable spanners.

@JudyEv I can imagine. I have been to Cologne chocolate museum here in Germany and there were a lot of chocolates to buy. We were able to watch how chocolates were made.

What a waste of chocolate, not to mention that's one ugly tree! I wonder if those are magic mushrooms and in how many did whoever came up with this 'thing' indulge.

I agree that it's ugly. They'd need to keep the temperature well-adjusted or they'd have falling branches everywhere.

It was a hot day and our first stop, so any chocolate was probably going to melt a bit. That thought helped me resist buying any.

I should have bought some but it was too hot. It would never have got home in one piece. I might have had to eat it all in one go!!
