Several myLotters have been talking recently about pork pies and Scotch pies then a lady in the village said she was making pasties for lunch so I asked Vince very nicely if he’d like to try his hand at making some pasties/pies for us. He wasn’t very happy with how they turned out so don’t tell him I put up a photo of them. However, the proof of the pudding, or the pie in this case, is in the eating and these were delicious. So good in fact, that we’ll be having the remaining two for dinner tonight.

They look really good, to be honest. Mom used to make pocket pies for us once in a while. They were sooo good!

@JudyEv The pies in your photo certainly look like pocket pies. That's what mom called them, anyway.

Are they something similar? I've never heard of pocket pies.

I want to try that as I do not like making those. I respect those who can make those as I do not have much patience in doing it but I can eat well

@rakski If it has more than six ingredients, I lose interest.

Luckily Vince enjoys cooking and doesn't mind all the steps it takes and the time it takes. I always clean up the pots and pans for him.

Pork pies and Scotch pies aren’t really common around here.

@AmbiePam Do you have meat pies there? There are shops selling pies everywhere here. You can get all sorts of fillings - steak and mushroom, chicken and leek, steak and onion - the list goes on and on.

I guess some dishes take off in a country and others don't.

Those look really good. I've never had those kinds of dishes and since I'm not much of a cook I'll tell my friend about it to see if she would want to make some for her hubby

As you say, what is inside matters more than how they look. I am sure those were delicious.

It has been a long while since we have had pasties. Bob has pretty well quit cooking for us.

If he can recover his health, perhaps he'll feel like cooking again. I hope so.

I am sure Vince's version was delicious and you enjoyed them. Son has been hinting about me making chicken pot pie, so I will work on putting one together for him sometime this next week.

The look doesn't matter as long as it taste good. But to the person who bake it, he felt disappointed it can't be avoided to feel that way.

We cut a circle of pastry and folded it over. Pasties as I know them were always this shape. I rolled out the scraps and made some jam tarts. lol
