We have been feeling down since our granddaughter left, because it was so wonderful having her to ourselves for five days.
I was very worried about her flying alone from LaGuardia airport in NYC. Her dad dropped her off early and it turned out to be a good thing. She only had to wait 15 minutes in line instead of over 1 1/2 hours. ICE reviewed her travel documents with their guns and all. She texted me before take off and when she landed. Hubs dropped me off at the airport, so I was able to see her where I told her I would be. He was waiting for us when I called him that we were ready for pickup. She took off on time and landed on time! She told me that she’s flown many times alone, and that I should not worry about her.
She was the perfect guest, fun to be with, and although we already knew how intelligent she is, she amazed us with her opinions and discussions on everything from politics, sports, fashion, health, helping others, education, diversity, religion, friendship, travel, etc…..
Although she committed herself to Tulane University for early acceptance, meaning she had to bow out of the other schools she applied to, she’s still getting accepted to other universities and offers of full rides and scholarships. So proud, but Tulane is her favorite southern university.
So, more fun things to come!

That’s always the truth. She’s so grown up and mature. Hubs and I are still talking about how much fun we had. My brother had dinner with us the first night and came to dinner one night with us. My older sister in law stopped by to visit with her, and my friend Sandi did as well. I introduced her to many people around here, which I am sure she will forget forever. I wouldn’t blame her.

@LadyDuck Yes, that happens. We met a lovely saleswoman in Chanel. She has my middle name, and my granddaughter and I joked that we would never forget her. We stopped by another day and there she was. Hallie and I both burst out laughing. I’m going to visit her either this week or in two weeks. She was really very nice and helpful, as most salespeople should be.

That is really good. My son used to fly to see his grandparents alone from age 9 on..no issues or problems..Of course he had that unaccompanied minor tag.

@DianneN I think it was that way then as well. She isn't a child though..She is a young lady.

Now days, a paid airline attendant has to accompany a young child and can’t leave them alone until a parent or some approved guardian arrives. That happened to her when she flew to camp and from camp to NYC to Michigan. She’s a pretty seasoned traveler, but grammy is a worrier.

It sounds like a wonderful visit and that you got to hog up your granddaugther
I know the feeling when it's just one and not a whole big crowd and trying to squeeze everything into a few short hours.
I'm sure she'll do well at Tulane. Can't say I'm surprised that she's still getting offers from other universities.
I would have been anxious too with her flying out of LaGuardia with all the ICE agents, long lines etc. Glad she made it through without any incident and got back home just as easily.

This was the first time ever having her all to ourselves and it was way too short if you ask me. Glad you totally understand!
Thank you. Apparently, Tulane is known as the Ivy of the south. She’s planning on majoring in political science.
She did have a 40 minute delay leaving here and arriving in NY, but texted us. I tracked her flight both ways, but finding out she was home safely was a huge relief for us as you can imagine. A 17 year old girl traveling alone is always worrisome.

@Marilynda1225 Her mom is very involved in politics and has an office in D.C. Perhaps it rubbed off. Her first political rally was at age 3 or 4
. Then again she used to want to be a Rockette and marine biologist. lol
I think her interning for a NJ Congressman has peaked her interest. The stories she told us were amazing.

Many thanks. Her flight from here was delayed for about 40 minutes and arrived 40 minutes late in NY. It didn’t create a problem, because she called for an Uber from the airport and it arrived quickly for her 30-40 minute ride home to NJ. Her brother and parents were away, but she let all of us know she arrived safely. Besides, her parents track her every move

She sure is beautiful and how wonderful that she is so intelligent. Has she decided what she wants to study? With a girl like her I would opt for actress or rock and roll singer for sure,

15 minutes in line, what a blessing
. i'm 39 and i would be so scared to fly alone also, maybe because i never flew so, what a brave granddaughter you have
i'm glad she picked the university that it's a good fit for her. can you tell me what will she study there?

She travels a lot with her family and flew to camp almost every year by herself when she was 7 years old until she was 16 with other campers. She also flew to the middle of the US from camp, to New York with an attendant, for a national figure skating event, and various places to visit friends alone. As often as I’ve flown, it would be a struggle for me to fly alone.
Thanks so much. She wants to major in political science. She’s very interested in politics and is interning for a Congressman. She’s not sure if she wants to become a lawyer. Both her parents are as well as her grandfather and uncle are lawyers. Time will tell……

Thank you! At one point she wanted to be a Rockette, but political science is what she loves now.
