Very Profitable Friday

Just returned from the consignment shop where I dropped off a pair of shoes and some clothes. I had a very nice amount of money waiting for me from last year’s sales. Hubs treated me to lunch afterwards. My granddaughter posted a cute video on TikTok with her parents. I grabbed a screenshot of her from yesterday going to Cafe de Monde for their yummy beignets. They are delicious! My son called me this morning to let me know that our granddaughter received a $10,000 academic scholarship to Tulane. No one told me about it before. Finally home about to have my Friday martini when a friend dropped by with 3 Chanel baseball caps for me! Too big for her head, so she thought of me! I guess she thought I had a pinhead, but they are adjustable.. I offered to pay for them, but she refused. Must do something special for her before we leave Florida. I guess good things can happen in threes, too. Do you use consignment shops?

I don't have much that anyone would want to buy ..... I tend to wear out clothes and shoes before I even think to get rid of them.

All my old stuff is now stuffing in pillow cases so Tuffy can have new places to sleep.

As I get older, certain things just don’t look good on me anymore. I loved them when I bought them, and it really hurts to part with them. Oh, well. At least I did spring cleaning in my closet.

@rebelann That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing that. I wear my old clothes when I’m digging in the garden.

Nope, never tried those shops, but we always shopped at second-hand places and often got good clothes that were maybe worn once, especially winter jackets and such. Congrats to your granddaughter on the scholarship. When are you going back to Connecticut?

I once bought a Chanel blouse in Scottsdale with the original price tag on for a song. Otherwise, I just drop off my old stuff and collect the money. Thank you! My son was ecstatic. Wish he told me sooner so I could congratulate her in person. We’re leaving here April 30th. My friends keep asking me when we’re coming back. I really can’t wait to get back. I’m itching to garden and see everyone again.

@DianneN yes, I have fond memories of the state. Where are you again, and are you far from Trumbull?

She won’t wear hats. She only wants to wear sunscreen and work on her tan. Sheesh! I thought I posted a photo, and it disappeared. Now it’s back.

There are no consignment shops here and I doubt we'd have anything they'd be interested in selling.

@DianneN Mom bought a lot of our clothes from Goodwill when I was growing up. One of the shirts I liked turned out to have belonged to a guy I knew in school.

Most of my stuff goes to Goodwill or the trash. I actually saw a lady wearing one of my shirts that I dropped off at Goodwill. Made me feel good that she liked it that much.

@DianneN It would be for sure. How does it work there? You leave the item? and then what happens?

@rakski You bring in clean undamaged items, they set the price, and arrange them by sizes to sell to customers. They give you half the amount the items sell for and keep the rest. Some stores keep the higher priced items and donate to charity the things that don’t sell after a month.

Consignment shops are a great idea, but usually when stuff leaves my house it is too worn out to resell.

I always wanted to, and I have some designer items I got for free that would sell well. However, it seems like it would a lot of trouble so I just donate it all.

It is no trouble at all. I told the owner that I will come next year with Christian Louboutin shoes from home and other things I don’t wear anymore, and she couldn’t stop thanking me. I have other things she wants, but no one is ever getting them except my DIL and granddaughter. Those designer things are in high demand, especially these days, and you can make excellent extra cash.

No, last time I did..I am not sure anything got sold. The only ones I made money from were ones where I sold toys my son had outgrown. I used to sell on FB marketplace though. That worked out pretty well.

That’s a bummer. I know up north if something isn’t sold after a certain amount of time it goes to various charities, which is fine by me. However, I’m happy to say that my stuff has sold. Somebody’s trash is somebody’s treasure.

Do they have them in the Philippines? I find them a great way to get rid of some of my older clothes, bags, and shoes. The rest I donate or throw into the trash.

There is a consignment shop here in London called Love Luxury but I have never been. I watch them online though and it is fun watching all sorts of limited edition stuff getting bought and sold. Your grand daughter is very pretty as she is smart! You must be very proud! Congratulations!

The shop I go to sells both luxury items and regular items. I never bought anything there, but many people do. Hope they buy all my items! Thanks so much! We are all proud of her. My grandson is a genius and adorable, but gets a little cocky for his own good.

@DianneN He enjoyed it. But he was there a long time ago. "eBay savvy" has meant fewer stereo"deals" at thrift shops in recent decades. But they're.occasionally still out there.

Thanks so much! That extra money will certainly come in handy. I hope you didn’t get scammed by the consignment shop! Did you ask them if they have any money for you? My store didn’t have my phone number for some reason, but we straightened that out when I was in.
