Very Profitable Friday

Just returned from the consignment shop where I dropped off a pair of shoes and some clothes. I had a very nice amount of money waiting for me from last year’s sales. Hubs treated me to lunch afterwards. My granddaughter posted a cute video on TikTok with her parents. I grabbed a screenshot of her from yesterday going to Cafe de Monde for their yummy beignets. They are delicious! My son called me this morning to let me know that our granddaughter received a $10,000 academic scholarship to Tulane. No one told me about it before. Finally home about to have my Friday martini when a friend dropped by with 3 Chanel baseball caps for me! Too big for her head, so she thought of me! I guess she thought I had a pinhead, but they are adjustable.. I offered to pay for them, but she refused. Must do something special for her before we leave Florida. I guess good things can happen in threes, too. Do you use consignment shops?

Nope, never tried those shops, but we always shopped at second-hand places and often got good clothes that were maybe worn once, especially winter jackets and such. Congrats to your granddaughter on the scholarship. When are you going back to Connecticut?

I once bought a Chanel blouse in Scottsdale with the original price tag on for a song. Otherwise, I just drop off my old stuff and collect the money. Thank you! My son was ecstatic. Wish he told me sooner so I could congratulate her in person. We’re leaving here April 30th. My friends keep asking me when we’re coming back. I really can’t wait to get back. I’m itching to garden and see everyone again.

@DianneN yes, I have fond memories of the state. Where are you again, and are you far from Trumbull?

@RasmaSandra We aren’t far at all from Trumbull. We’re northwest of New Haven in Woodbridge.

I don't have much that anyone would want to buy ..... I tend to wear out clothes and shoes before I even think to get rid of them.

All my old stuff is now stuffing in pillow cases so Tuffy can have new places to sleep.

As I get older, certain things just don’t look good on me anymore. I loved them when I bought them, and it really hurts to part with them. Oh, well. At least I did spring cleaning in my closet.

@rebelann That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing that. I wear my old clothes when I’m digging in the garden.

Congratulations to your granddaughter. How wonderful for her. Maybe your granddaughter would enjoy one of those hats.

She won’t wear hats. She only wants to wear sunscreen and work on her tan. Sheesh! I thought I posted a photo, and it disappeared. Now it’s back.

I'm glad you are having a grand day. I snoop in thrift shops.

Thanks! I needed a good day after the last two. Snooping in thrift shops is always lots of fun, especially when you can find the perfect thing at a really good price!

My brother went to Tulane. No consignment shops. But I do check thrift stores occasionally for vintage stereo gear.

@DianneN He enjoyed it. But he was there a long time ago. "eBay savvy" has meant fewer stereo"deals" at thrift shops in recent decades. But they're.occasionally still out there.

@TheHorse Thanks for telling me. I hope my granddaughter likes it, too. I think I know you well enough to find the best products you want at the best prices.

How did your brother like Tulane? I’m sure you find some pretty amazing things for your stereo gear and way less expensive than at traditional stores.

Consignment shops are a great idea, but usually when stuff leaves my house it is too worn out to resell.

I always wanted to, and I have some designer items I got for free that would sell well. However, it seems like it would a lot of trouble so I just donate it all.

It is no trouble at all. I told the owner that I will come next year with Christian Louboutin shoes from home and other things I don’t wear anymore, and she couldn’t stop thanking me. I have other things she wants, but no one is ever getting them except my DIL and granddaughter. Those designer things are in high demand, especially these days, and you can make excellent extra cash.

No, last time I did..I am not sure anything got sold. The only ones I made money from were ones where I sold toys my son had outgrown. I used to sell on FB marketplace though. That worked out pretty well.

That’s a bummer. I know up north if something isn’t sold after a certain amount of time it goes to various charities, which is fine by me. However, I’m happy to say that my stuff has sold. Somebody’s trash is somebody’s treasure.

The coffee is strong at the Cafe de Monde The donuts are too hot to touch And just like a fool, when those sweet goodies cool I eat ‘til I eat way too much (Jimmy Buffett, “The Wino and I Know”) No, I haven’t tried a consignment shop.

There are no consignment shops here and I doubt we'd have anything they'd be interested in selling.

I don't think I have ever seen or heard of a consignment store here Dianne. But well done on getting money from sales in the store Hope lunch was good. I have however heard of Beignets And boy I would gladly happily merrily and joyously eat them all up I am shocked I have never had them before Congrats to your grand daughter on the scholarship to Tulane. Good things can come in 3,s
