A Gate to Nowhere

I just had a conversation with @Sallypup about fences and gardening.
Our 2+ acre lot at our home in Connecticut is too large for a fence for my cheapo husband to have put up to keep the wildlife at bay.
So, I do what I can. I always wanted a garden gate, so about 2 years ago, hubs helped me put this one in. I enhanced it with 2 lampposts with solar lighting. It does look pretty at night. I usually just walk into my flower garden from wherever I am in the yard. No gate needed.
Any suggestions of what else I can put into my garden?

I would have to be there and see it up close and personal before I suggested anything
Do you have a seating area in the garden, with a nice table, where one can partake of a nice cool beverage on a warm sunny day

We have a patio
Big round table
Huge parasol should it get overly warm
And some bespoke seating
All a bit old and tired now

It looks like a very tranquil spot! Do you have canna lilies? You might try those, if you don't. We used to have some in a melon color. It was so lovely and tropical-looking!

It’s as tranquil as can be. Since that photo, we have had about 9 trees removed. Well, I had them removed. Hubs wanted nothing to do with that. Some were diseased and the others blocked the sunlight from my flowers.
Perhaps now I can try growing canna lilies. I always loved them!

@DianneN they do fine up here in NC, so they should be super easy in Florida. We also used to have a flower called a Brazilian daffodil (I think my husband got it from Wayside Gardens). It didn't look very much like a daffodil, but it was lovely, and it smelled just like nutmeg!

I remember in one of our homes I had a fenced garden but we hired a landscape artist for doing everything coz I was too buy at that time.
Unfortunately, we sold the house coz it was just too far and traffic was getting congested. It was a good decision we did.

This became my little garden, which is growing and becoming a full time hobby for me. When we had our land renovated, we gave away and had some of the greenery that our landscape artist designed for us. We hired a new landscape artist for the rest of our property., but only had walls put in and no fences. They built me a raised bed vegetable garden that is entirely fenced in including the roof.

Maybe a hummingbird feeder? We put one up last year and it amazed us how many hummingbirds stopped by and ate from it.

@DianneN yes, one thing my husband read online about them that we witnessed, is that they are territorial. If one is feeding and another comes up to the same feeder, the one already there will fight the newcomer off. They don't like to share.

I had one a long time ago, but it was a pain in the neck for me to clean and fill it. But thanks for your input.
I’m do seem to have a lot of hummingbirds despite not having a feeder. They are drawn to red flowers, but I have seen them on other colored flowers, too.

The gate looks great. If you keep adding gates you can trick him into fencing it

Thanks so much and so did I! I believe I see your brick pathway beneath your archway. Very nice job and not only practical, but quite lovely.
Years ago we had our landscaper put in a bluestone pathway. It led to nowhere, too, but now begins under my white arch and connects to our new patio. I have such grand visions, but have to fight hubs every step of the way. He’s beginning to see the light some of the time.

The gate is lovely. Do you also have kitchen herbs or any easy to plant veggies in your garden?
You can also add a little pool in your garden with fish on it to make your garden aesthetic... if you don't have it yet, it would be lovely to install one.

I'm fascinated by your garden and how lovely it is but I can't offer any suggestions. I admire people who have beautiful gardens but I've never had the knack for one.

I love the idea of the solar lighting. Do you have a sundial?

Thanks. We have a lot of warm solar lighting around my garden and in front of the house, which is good when we are in Florida. I also have a dusk to dawn light by our garage which is helpful.
Yes, we’ve had a sundial for years, which hubs actually thought of himself.
