A Little Warning Please

So I called in my prescription, and I wondered why I hadn’t gotten a confirmation from my pharmacy that it was ready. Wanting to cover my bases, I called them to double-check. Well, that’s when they told me they (FDA) discontinued that medication. Uh, what? So I have an appointment with my doctor next week to see what to do about that. I would have thought the pharmacy would have given me a heads up.
Anyone experienced this?

I think they should have contacted you and explained, not waited for you to get in touch with them. Does this mean that you are going to be without your medication until you have seen the Dr ?

Oh, my. That’s a new one I haven’t heard! Son has a med or two that at times we have to wait a day or two for its arrival, even though I have them on automatic refills, but sometimes it happens.

Ack! No, I haven't experienced that--how awful. Praying the doctors/whoever get this straightened out, soon !

I have not. And I’m a little surprised that your doctor wouldn’t know that…or that the pharmacy wouldn’t tell you, or at the very least call the doctor and ask what medication he/she would like to replace the discontinued medication with!

@AmbiePam — and most likely, your insurance won’t let you switch to another provider because they have this one “trained” to do their bidding instead of what’s best for the patient.

Yes, the pharmacy here didn't let me know when the shot I had been taking for my allergies was discontinued. When I called the doctor, he said we'd have to go through a completely new trial with the new-to-me med in shot form... I told him never mind since I can always use an epi-pen if I start having allergies again.

That must have been quite a surprise! I can understand why you were confused when you never got the usual notification from the pharmacy.
I've never had that happen personally, but I have heard of medications being discontinued or manufacturers stopping production. It does seem like it would have been helpful if the pharmacy had contacted you instead of leaving you to find out when you called.

Years ago I did have this happen once. My doctor is the one who finally told me. It was a medicine I only took occasionally, but it worked really well for me.

That really sucks. It's the doctor who usually informs us and not the pharmacy in this country.

Call me crazy but I would have thought they would have contacted you to let you know OR messaged your doctor to see if he wanted to prescribe something similar. Either way it's nuts that you had to call them

Seems like everyone is having perscription problems. They were supposed to call in the emergency script for me in last Thursday, well they never called it, so it didnt get filled till Monday and then I was supposed to get my regualr one yesterday after my appt, and they wouldn't fill it yesterday ebcause the fill in emergency script was for three days, so they finally had it ready today. But they didn't fill any of my other meds, today and said the doc didnt even call them in. So that was annoying.
