Good News (For Me)

Some of you have been following my unfortunate complaints about the ramifications of getting a tooth pulled and a few stitches. My gums are inflamed, my face is swollen, and I’m in tremendous pain. I wasn’t sure how to get to Monday when I can call the dentist (I usually have pain medicine from my pain management doctor, but he moved my appointment so I can’t get a refill until Thursday).
Anyway, I found four of my old pain pills in my cabinet. They are weaker than my usual medicine, so it takes two at a time to work, but at least I can get about five hours free from pain today, and five hours free of pain tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks to those who have encouraged me to hang in there. Believe it or not, I have a high pain tolerance (I foolishly walked on a broken ankle for two weeks), but this has set me back badly. Something is definitely wrong.

I’m sorry you’re having so much pain. 
Hope the pills combined with some Tylenol will ease the pain somewhat.

I don’t understand it either. That’s totally in line with what any other doctor would do. But he’s so bonkers even his staff acknowledges it. I’ve had one nurse intervene a couple of times when he messed up my prescription, but this time his hands are tied.

While I am glad you found 4 pills, I don't think that's going to help for long. It really does sound like dry socket (incredibly painful!) and/or an infection. Well, you know what this mama thinks you should do....I hate to think of you being in that type of pain for this long.

@MarieCoyle I have been using four ice packs, and, I kid you not, I’ve used a pair of underwear for a heating pad.

Please don't forget ice. It really does help a lot with mouth and tooth pain. Having nursed son through all of the mouth/teeth surgeries the past few years, I can say it works pretty well, at least for a time.

Ouch! I hope you don't have problems on BOTH sides of your mouth. That would not be nice to handle, especially at the same time like you are doing!!
If you run out of your pain meds, try Aleve. Five of them are equal to prescription strength. Worth a try!

Oh I am sorry about that. Are you sure they do the procedure right? or maybe people have different tolerance.
I got my tooth extracted and my gums was stitches, but the pain is tolerable. It is just I am not allowed to eat eggs, and eat hot food, I am not also allowed to eat seafood for the whole week. No warm or hot food nor soup in a week.

Tooth pain is some of the worse pain you will ever see in your life. They say ripping off finger nails is like Chinese torture, if you ever have had and inflamed gum or tooth, I would take Chinese torture. Just saying.

That amount of pain and swelling isn't normal, in my experience. It typically peaks around 48-72 hours, and swelling should be localized to where the tooth was extracted.
The fact that you're reporting the opposite side is more swollen than the other is really concerning. Like, go to the ER concerning. Ludwig's angina can present that way initially, and that can turn life-threatening quickly.
I hope it's not that severe, but it does sound like you could use antibiotics ASAP instead of waiting it out.
