Okay, Packing Is All Done Now...

I leave for the hospital for five days early in the morning. The medical taxi will take me and bring me home when I'm done. I packed five pair of sleep shorts, five pair of underwear and five tank tops and one jacket in case I get cold while I'm there. I packed a bag with all my meds in it and two epi-pens, just in case. Pretty brought me five snacks to pack and I added two blueberry bagels to take, as well. I can't take my meds first thing in the morning, like I normally do or eat before I get to the hospital. The neurologist sent an email telling me that she needs baseline metabolic rates for me before I'll be allowed to eat after I am installed in my hospital bed. I'll wear a pair of sandals to wear around the hospital and have my travel CPAP ready to take with me in the morning. The nurse will give me my meds and something to eat after I'm hooked up to the drain and hose that goes into a bag that will be hanging on the side of my bed. My phone is fully charged but I'll also take a charger and cord for my phone. I can't think of anything else. I'll talk to you all when I get home. I'm sure I'll miss everybody.

@kareng I've been home since Friday before noon. I'm walking well without my cane and have only gotten dizzy when I got up too fast from being asleep.

Thank you. I think everything is okay. I see the neurologist in two weeks to have the staples removed from my spine and she'll decide if I need the drain and hose installed in my head when I see her then.

@sallypup At least I can't feel the staples. They're there to hold the hole in my spine closed while it heals. I ate an ice cream cone yesterday and just had taquitos for breakfast this morning.

@DaddyEvil oh okay I was thinking this would be within days they would decide if a shunt and hose was needed. I’m so glad for now you are able to walk without getting dizzy. I knew you sleep during the day but was worried it might upset your sleep schedule being in the hospital. It’s so hard to sleep when they are always coming in and taking vitals and all the different noises etc that you aren’t used to.

I've been awake all night. I sleep during the daytime. I'm able to walk without the cane and without getting dizzy, for now. We have an appointment with the neurologist in two weeks and will find out what she thinks we should do next. I'm hoping for the shunt and the hose.

@shaggin I did sleep a lot after I got home. For some reason, they kept leaving my door open so I heard everything happening in the hallway. I did have a lot of fun visiting with the nurses and the nurse's aids while I was there. I didn't even mind the young man who woke me up every couple of hours to take my temperature. He kept having trouble with his thermometer so I was laughing and teasing him about where he should stick it to get a better fix on the temp... (Of course, I was telling him to stick it up his rump instead of under my tongue or arm. He'd blush and start giggling. Which made me laugh, too.)

@DaddyEvil I am so relieved to see you here again. I have been thinking of you since Friday as I knew that you were going to be discharged on that day, but since you didn't post, I thought you were still recovering. Have you received any feedback from the doctor regarding your testing yet or is it too soon?

@Juliaacv It's still too soon. She said she'd see Pretty and I in her office in two weeks to discuss the next step. (She might decide she can't help me or she might recommend I get the shunt installed. I'm hoping for the shunt. I'm walking fine and have only gotten dizzy when I got out of bed too fast.)

@rakski I always feel fine, thank you. The doctor will look at the tests I took on Friday and let me know in two weeks whether she thinks I'm a good candidate for the shunt and hose. Right now I'm still walking fine and have only gotten dizzy when I tried to get out of bed too fast.

Unfortunately, I was packing to go to the hospital for five days. I really wasn't happy but was happy enough while in the hospital. I enjoyed visiting with all the people who were helping me/taking care of me while I was there.
