Do you leave the tv on for your dog?

Our dog hates when we leave the house. And in general goes ape when we return. I tried leaving the tv on a couple of times to see if she was calmer with some sort of company. Even if it was noise from the tv. She is still rambunctious, but not nearly as bad if we leave it on. have you done this?

No, the television is not usually left on for me while my humans are out, except last night (Guy Fawkes night in U.K.) where it was left on to try and drown out the noise of the fireworks which makes me really frightened, sometimes if the noise is very loud I try to dig a hole in the carpet to hide myself, this seems to upset my humans a lot- don't know why because a 'dog has to do what a dog has to do!' Paws for Thought!!

Our dogs do not sleep or hang out in the rest of the house. They have their own room, so no I do not leave the television on for them. My brother has done this a few times with his dog. Especially when he will be gone for long hours. He will come home and the dog will be on his bed asleep in front of the television.

Well, I would have to say that's just silly. However, whatever helps. Personally, I would look to obedience train the dog if her rambunctious nature is that much of a problem. Just running the TV doesn't seem like something that I'd want to do.

My husband and I are guilty of leaving the TV on for our cats, when we go away sometimes for the week end. We would also leave the air conditioner on for them as well. We would leave Animal Planet on, I do not think they really cared, but I think the ability to hear voices is calming to them. We would even call our house and talk to them over the answering machine.

Yes I leave it on sometimes- especially when their is a lot of noise being made by the neighbors - It drowns out the sound and that way they aren't running from window to window barking at every little noise. they will usually just sleep comfortably.

We do leave our TV on for all of our pets. We have a big german shepherd and 2 cats. My DH leaves the one on in our bedroom. The dog usually stays back in the back part of the house away from the cats and sleeps on her bed on the floor. The TV in the den is left on for the kitties. Sounds stuipd really, but we think it helps them cope when we're not there with them.

No I don't leave the television on for the animals. For me that would be a waste of electricity and also We don't like to leave things on or hooked up never know with the older homes about wiring.

I never leave the tv on when I leave. I want my dogs to be able to hear anyone thinking of breaking in. Lol..dog barks scare more intruders away than anything else. Also I have two dogs. That way one can keep the other one company. How old is your dog? I know the younger they are the more rambunctious they are. But you know what both of my dogs jump up and down and want attention as soon as i walk through the door. I have never met a dog who does do this yet. Have you given thought to adding a second dog to keep your other one busy?

I read in a poster in an animal clinic once that it helps when you turn on the TV to keep your pets from being bored. As for our case, we don't leave the TV on for our puppy for sometimes she does watch with us.

My boyfriend and I also leave the tv on for our dogs and cat. The one dog that we have out loves to watch tv and of course we leave it on Animal Planet for him. LOL
