Am I out of it?

OK, yesterday's and today's topic on Dear Abby was thong underwear, pros and cons. Usual stuff until I got to the part where somebody who works in a hospital ER stated that thong underwear causes urinary tract infections, something about that little strip of cloth going up the backside. I'll leave the gory details to your imagination. But anyway then they mentioned that a lot of elementary aged children were brought in with infections due to wearing thongs. Huh? Thong underwear on elementary school aged children? Heck even my kids were shocked at that! Am I totally out of it or what?

That is shocking. My sister is nine and i don't see her wearing that any time soon. Whats the point of a child wearing thongs. And also i believe that thongs are the cause of some infections. I use to wear them alot and was more prone to them than.

I never knew about the infections before, I just think they're uncomfortable and you can wear pretty panties that aren't thongs!

That is shocking. The last time i bought underwear was really difficult. My size and style i like are always gone. I like just regular underwear. Regular waist and regular leg holes. Sounds like these thong wearing elementry girls are way out of line. Im so glad my daughter never dresses like a street walker.

The story I heard from the teen point of view is that it prevents that dreaded panty line from showing when the teen is wearing slacks. It could be pretty drastic, even when the pants were not overly snug, those naughty little lines. It often forced girls from my era, (yup, I'm dating myself) to go with out undies or wear hose. Then came the thong. * But what thongs are doing on the ten and under set? Good grief!

I do not allow my elementary children to wear thongs. No way. I don't wear them. I broke my tail bone three times. So, no wearing anything like that even for a a mintue or two. I think allowing c hildren that young to wear them is just out and out wrong. What is wrong with these parents who think they can dress they young children like sexy adults? Than wonder why old man john down the street keep staring at them with his beady little eyes.

Peopel who try to be friends and not parents at that age will have a rude awaking when the kids become teenagers and start treating their parents like friends. Hopefully they will be good kids. If not, they will have more than what they bargined for.

I can't believe it. Elementary kids wearing thong underwear!? None of my nieces have done or shown an inclination to do that. I think it would gross them out! And the parents let them and buy them for these kids? I just can't imagine doing that. If you are totally out of it then so am I and both my sisters and their kids!

Whenever I go shopping and walk past the little girls section I see clothing that honestly belongs in the adult section, only it's made for kids, and I can't believe it. I have a 6 year old daughter, and while I do want her to look stylish, I'd never allow her to dress like an adult. I think that's just screaming for attention from pedophiles! My daughter was once given this dress that had no back. It had straps in the front that tied around her neck, and bared her whole back. She was only about 4 when she had this dress. She wore it once, and she was outside playing, and I kept looking at her thinking she looks too much like a teenager, and that would be a pretty little target for a phedophile. So I made her go change, and then I threw the dress away. That's not like me, normally I donate our used clothes, if they're decent enough to wear again, but I didn't think any child should wear this dress, so I put it in the trash. I have a neighbor down the road who has 4 girls. 2 of them are teenagers. The 9 year old is larger and actually dresses more like a boy, but her 7 year old wants to dress like her big sisters. I've seen her go to school in spaghetti strap tank tops, tiny shorts that would basically show off her butt cheeks when she bends over, and even high heels! It's scary how these little girls are dressing these days. When I was a kid the most provacative thing we had to wear were half shirts, and my mother wouldn't even allow me to wear that. When I was 8 I asked for a bikini, and again, I was told no. Now I know why. I can't even believe they sell bikini's for babies. Children should dress like children, not like adults!

I also think that dressing a child up in such a way that she will catch a pedophile's attention may send a message that the parent doesn't care enough to protect the child. Or is careless or something...

I think it's just parents want to keep up with the latest trends, and use their kids as a fashion accessory. They want their kids to be as hip as they'd like themselves to be. I don't know. But it drives me crazy when I see little girls wearing things that most grown adults shouldn't even be wearing in public!

That is nuts! Why? I mean really, what are we teaching kids these days with all that crap? Kids need to be kids, not little adults.

No doubt some idiot will think it's cute and run out and buy some for the precious one...or the precious one already has some because her tiny friend has them. Too many kids just get exactly what they want...their parents have no brains or standards or values or common sense.

How are these children going to go when they are grown and have to assume responsibilities. I hope their parents are prepared to stick around and accept the consequences of their poor parenting skills.

Some of them don't. Don't get me started about my 8 year old's friend who was calling way past her bedtime until we put our foot (feet?) down. Her parents didn't...

I used to work in the school system and I have seen Jr. High/Middle school girls wearing thongs. The wear those hip huggers with the waist band of the thongs all you their belly button so everyone know they had on thongs - We were like WOW that has to hurt - we called them pre-made weggie draws. We had to band the girls from them. (Now it was not all of the girls - about 10 or 12 of them.) But in Elementary is crazy. Apples don't fall to far from the tree tho..

I have one word for this discussion: Ick! Who ever heard of thongs and kids in the same sentence? Not I, I think they are gross even when sized for grownup women, much less for a child. I haven't seen these kinds of drawers in the children's department, and I sure as heck would never look or even buy those gross things for my daughter either.

Wow I must be out of it because I wouldn't think an elementary aged child would be wearing thongs. I've worn them a few times when I didn't want the panty line to show through my pants, but now I like those boxer/boy shorts. I had not realised they can cause infections either.

ok thong underwear on elementary school children is rather retarded. the parents ought be slapped for that one. but as far as thong underwear itself.. i personally love the stupid little butt floss. in regards to the comments from the sposed ER staff person.. im sorry.. but if someone isnt going to clean their a55 properly.. theyre gonna get infections whether they wear thongs or not. eww

My neice, who is 18 wears them, but I still do not get why anyone would want to be that uncomfortable.I bought one of those naughty nightie sets many years ago to wear for an anniversary. Well I tell you I threw it away the next day. Even for fun it was annoying.

Yup. Your out of it. So am I and I assume most of the middle aged people here are too. Thongs are the in thing for teens and tweens. I wouldn't like something going up my rear end. I buy hains and jockey type womens panties. Nice and comfortable. I prefer the new style with no side seams. They are supper comfy.

That's a shock to me! I can't believe that elementary kids are wearing thongs! This is completely the parents fault. At that age what kid buys their own underwear?!? I think this is ridiculous and parents should be held responsible for this, especially if it happens on a regular basis with a child.

It's probably the same parents that get them sexy clothing and other things that children that young really shouldn't be wearing.

If babies barely out of diapers are put into bikinis, is that much of a stretch to see them a few years later sporting thongs?

A thong is considered something sexy like what business does a child under 16 doing wearing a thong? So not right and their parents are not right for letting them wear them. I have read in a few magazines that it does cause Urinary tract infections..but then so do bubble baths..Kids just try to grow up to soon. No kid of mine would even have a thing till at least 16 some wear them so they don't have pantylines showing with certain clothing. But a young child no way no how..they would be marched right back up if I found out and made to change..well your daughters finding out will make them not want to wear them for a while.

When my daughter started preschool last year I went to get her new clothes and underwear. I couldn't believe that they had thong underwear and other adult looking underwear in such small sizes. Who is buying these for their kids? I couldn't imagine letting my girls wear something like that. I expressed my disgust in a mutter and then I picked up the little mermaid underwear and went on my way.

I have to say that it really kind of amazes me that children would be wearing that kind of thing. I don't believe that parents should be letting them wear things like that. I have never liked thongs myself. Feels like a permanent wedgie if you ask me! I think that underwear like thongs would not look right on a child at all.

I agree and except for the possible situation where the child is in the performing arts and was asked to wear them for a performance, I can't think of one possible reason why they should even make thongs for children that young!

Well... they said 'elementary age kids' which could technically be what, 5th or 6th grade and that is still age 10, maybe 11. I have seen some 10 and 11 year olds that dress as if they were 15 - and look like it too. I have a friend whose daughters were wearing thongs when they were 10 and 13... I joke with the older one about it because she's 18 now lol. Of course I also tell her I will not let MY daughter wear thongs...

No! This is way too young, though I see those kids where I am with them hanging out the back of their jeans as fashion accessories. My older daughters wear them like this, but they are 19 and twenty. If my too younger ones wanted them, I would tell them off. They can wear them when they are at least sixteen. As for infections. Yes! I have heard this also. They do cause this to happen apparently.

Holy cow! I can't believe this - I must be out of it also! Of course women who are older have the choice of what underwear they want to purchase but thongs for children? I can't believe this! I don't agree with this kind of underwear for young girls - they are making clothes for young girls more and more slinky. It' absolutely horrible!
