lets send a check to every person in the united states for 100,000 dollars, you can do what ever you want with the money, but welfare will be discontinued and will no longer exist, also there will never be these stimulus checks again or any free ride from the government, homeless shelters will close down and the homeless will also receive a 100,000 dollar check, now if you are smart you will do something with the money and get your life on the right track and if you are stupid o well you had your shot and screwed up.

Yes, let's just give away money like everyone won the lottery, because we all know how well off people who win the lottery are...

Why not just cut the tax rates and give working people a break. At the same time reduce welfare benefits to the standard deduction that the government says we need to live on. Also let them work and earn money but not lose benefits except ll the benefits would be taxed. If you are receiving $300 a month in food stamps then that is counted as income. The same with housing assistance, and heating assistance. This would be an incentive to get off welfare and get a job. Make it a requirement that you have to have a High School Diploma to receive welfare. This way all people would have an investment in the government and the spending.

Cutting taxes isn't the solution for our every problem. Neither is punishing the poor or those who have come upon hard times. Will cutting taxes and taxing food stamp and fuel assistance benefits fix our infrastructure, which only earns a "D" from the Army Corps of Engineers? Maybe we should just deport the sick and the poor along with all the illegal immigrants, including babies who were born here to illegal immigrants. We could also set aside locations where we can dump those who can't afford health care where they can stay until they die. Misery loves company so let all the poor, sick people commiserate with each other as they take their last breaths. Annie

I agree with you about cutting taxes and giving working people a break...but it ends there. Welfare reform, which created welfare to work programs in every state, has been around for over 10 years now requiring recipients to obtain training and/or get a job or lose benefits. I don't know what standard deduction you're referring to but welfare and food stamp benefits are already tied to the poverty line and, when you look at the living conditions of these people, it's barely enough to pay for substandard housing. The requirement that the poor and needy have a high school diploma before being eligible for assistance is unrealistic and cruel. Does the idea of homeless, cold and hungry children mean nothing to you?

Wouldn't this just completely devalue the dollar? And capitalism? I mean, I guess you're suggesting this as a launch pad for ideas, but I think you started off a bit grandiose. Because this just sounds like socialism in the extreme. I don't really think it would work, because the rest of the world would not put any value to a currency that was just handed out like that (the US doesn't really have trillions of dollars in surplus, and even cutting many programs wouldn't produce enough money, so you'd have to just magic it out of thin air, and doing that would devalue the currency) Also, if everyone had 100,000 dollars, no one would value money the same way. A loaf of bread could cost $50 or something like that.

I would support that. However democrats have to have you dependent on government or they have no purpose.

I don't get what you're trying to say? If you accept a $100,000 check from the government isn't that a dependency on government?

You do realize that what you are calling for a one lump expenditure that exceeds all the money the United States government has spent in our entire history of our nation, right? 303,824,640 x $100,000= $303,382,464,000,000 Our government would have had to average $358,791,497.40 a day throughout our entire history to equal what you have proposed here.

This is why a tax cut would be a better way of getting money into the economy. If people pay down their debt - this is money to loan to others, if they save money this is money for banks to loan out, if they invest in stocks and bonds this is money for business to expand and add more jobs and finally if they spend it on a big screen TV that is money for a business to pay people. No matter what you do with the money you save from a tax cut it will help the economy. If the government increases taxes you will have the opposite effect on the economy. The same thing when government increases spending, they are taking money out of the economy and people do not have the money to use. Remember taxes are YOUR MONEY that the government is taking to spend how they think it is best spent.

I have to wonder the same thing mykl did where is this money going to come from? even if you cut welfare totally (which will only cause more problems that it will solve) there wont be enough to do what you want to do and I noticed that in a comment you mentioned that in your plan the elderly wouldnt get any money... uh seriously have you seen what elderly have to life off of as far as income goes? they cant even afford the basic necessities!!! and if they are legal citizens then they are just as entitled as anyone else it sounds to me like there will be a lot of descrimination going on with your plan I will pass thanks!

Well, the biggest problem is like they have displayed on the Talk Shows, etc. is that there are a lot of people out there who do not know how to manage $$ and considering shutting down the Welfare system in terms does sound like a Great way to save a lot of $$, there needs to still be things out there to help those who are unable to provide for themselves as well. Yes, there are a lot of people who have been abusing this system for a long time, and many who will continue to do so no matter what, but what about those who need the help as well? Personally I would Love if they could really investigate each person a little closer in some way and make sure when a person is seeking help from an agency it is for Real, and that they are not using and abusing the system as well. It would really save a lot of agencies a lot of $$ for sure.

So, you're going to close down all government programs and all homeless shelters. That means all the people who work in those programs (Clerks, social workers, auditors, bookkeepers etc) will be out of a job and all looking for work at the same time. You will also have to close down the food stamp program and that means the farmers will have a lot of surplus food they cannot sell. The greedy will have a field day raising prices on basic necessities in order to get more than their share of the poorman's $100 grand apieece. In the meantime the middle class will do exactly what they are now doing. They will hoard the $100 grand away with the rest of their saved money so that after the poor have been completely fleeced there will be almost no money in circulation. By the time your brilliant little plan kicks in, we will have a depression the magnitude of which will make 1929 look like a walk in the park. I think you need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
