I found a great deal... and now I'm so excited!!

A couple months ago I decided I wanted to get my husband a new gas grill for Father's Day. The gas grill that is currently sitting on our porch does not work, it hasn't worked for a few years. Hubby has been mentioning buying some parts to fix it up, because he knows a new gas grill is a bit too expensive. So, for a couple months now I've been putting aside a few bucks every week to save up for this new gas grill. Then a couple weeks ago I started looking at prices. I found a nice one that I really liked marked at $188 on Walmart.com. So I had an idea of how much I'd need to save up. So this morning I cashed my paycheck and set aside a couple more bucks towards the gift, and was then at $120 towards this gas grill. Then I went to Walmart to do my grocery shopping. I decided last week I would start buying little accesories to go with the new grill. Last week I bought a grill brush, this week I picked out a set of grilling utensils. I still need to get a grill cover, maybe a glove (like an oven mitt), maybe a mat.. and a propane tank. So I head back towards the lawn and garden department to buy this week's accessories.. and I see a display of grills. I stopped to take a look.. and the grill they had set up there was a really nice one. It was pretty big, it said it had a 27 burger capacity.. it had a little side burner for a pot or pan or something. Basically it was about what I was looking for.. and it was on sale for $148! Well I thought about it for a little while.. I figured this was hard to pass up. If I wait, the price will go up and I'd miss out on the deal. Even if I just waited a day or two I might find that they've all been sold out. So I really had to act fast and buy it now. So I did. Add to that.. I'm having it assembled for free! I'll be able to pick it up sometime next week. So now I am really excited. My husband is going to love this gift and he's going to be so surprised! Not only will he be excited to see that he has a brand new, and really nice grill.. he's also going to be surprised that I could afford to get him such a nice Father's Day present! I really can't wait to see his face!! Would you have passed up that deal? What are you planning for Father's Day?

You did good! And I bet he will appreciate it! I won't be doing anything for Father's day.....my father has passed and I am not married. So...it's just another day around here!

I would have done my best to figure a way to get it. You have been really smart saving up this way and shopping. Sometimes nice things like that happen to me.

It really feels good to give a special gift, too. Have fun sharing it.

Yes.. I am glad I had managed to save so much towards it, otherwise I would not have been able to buy the grill today. As it was I only needed to come up with an extra $40 to cover the grill with the taxes.. so I just took that out of this week's spending cash.

Hey, congratulations! If you knocked a full $40 off the price you were expecting to pay, that's a great deal I would have done the same thing and picked it up right away before missing out on the sale or finding them to be out of stock (that always seems to happen to me when I shop from a flyer). I bet your hubby is going to be really thrilled with the new grill... and how cool that you get the free assembly. That'll make it an even nicer Father's Day because he won't have to put it together. Super gift!

Oh yeah I've been there... my ex was terrible at assembling stuff because he had ZERO patience for it... generally, anything that had to be put together, I did it myself because, if I didn't, he'd be yelling and throwing stuff *sighhhhh* That would put a damper on a holiday pretty darn quick. Glad your hubby will be able to get straight to grilling Must be hard to keep it a secret... I LOVE getting a good deal on something. I'm usually happier about the deal than the item itself

LOL.. seems to be the way guys are, huh? No, mine is pretty good about assembling.. he doesn't get frustrated and he generally does it right. However a big grill like this would take some time and it's not really fair to have to assemble something on his special day.. you know. Plus I think the effect will be better if he sees the assembled grill all ready to go instead of a box with a grill inside. This way he immediately gets to see all the cool features of the grill instead of just a picture of it. Yes it has been hard to keep the secret. I've felt the need to tell everyone about the grill because I'm so excited about it. I just can't believe I found one so cheap and actually got it.. and it's way nicer than the one we had! I almost don't even want to tell him how much I really paid for it once he sees it because he might assume it's a $300 grill that's how nice it is! Mostly I'm just excited at how it all came together. I've been wanting to get him a new grill for a few years now, but of course it just wasn't in the budget.. so that makes it all the more special. Now I just have to keep my mouth shut about it for a few more weeks.. that will definitely be the hard part. Anytime I'm really excited about a gift I've gotten him I tend to spill the beans a lot quicker!

Yeah.. sure is! I bought him a little charcoal grill a couple years ago and he had to put it together.. even though it was little it was a pain to get together. He is really going to love this and I can't wait to give it to him.

Yes it is exciting.. and I feel the need to tell everybody. Unfortunately I cannot tell my husband! I just called up my mother because I was so excited and wanted to badly to tell someone and I started off with "I really need to tell someone but I can't tell hubby" and she was worried.. what could I have to say that I could not tell him..

Oh what a steal. I have seen them but cannot afford to but them out here as they are so expensive. he will love that gift and treasure it knowing how you saved so hard for it. What a wonderful gift to show him what a great Dad he is and how much you all love him He will be so surprised. remember to take a photo of his face when he sees it for the first tie. It will be priceless!

I never expected to find a nice one for much less than $200.. and he's certainly going to be shocked at how great it looks. He's going to think I spent a lot more than I actually did!

Congrats on the good find! My husband loves to BBQ as well and he got a deal at Home Depot on a charcoal (he refuses to use gas, only natural charcoal) on a grill in the fall. I have no idea what we are doing for Fathers Day. He wants a book that isn't out yet or the new PSP which isn't out yet. Honestly, I am not even sure when Fathers Day is lol We are moving at the end of next week and will be on the road for about a week so we have been wrapped up in that.

I have no idea bout propane, we have never earned a propane grill. My Dad always used a natural gas grill. Ew, no wonder why the charcoal is so expensive! The stuff we buy is a 15lb bag for $5 but its not briquettes its the charcoal before its made into briquette, so it doesn't have fillers or chemicals. We stumbled upon it by accident a few years ago and it lasts so much longer than the regular briquettes. The only downside is that they do take about 15 minute to heat up in the chimney starter, but once they are hot they burn for a lot longer. A few weeks ago DH started off with corn on the grill, then added chicken (it was for dinner), took all that off grilled 2 sets of burgers, and then some steaks. He still had enough heat to continue cooking after that if we had food lol

Propane tanks are expensive to fill, aren't they? We buy huge bags of natural charcoal from whole food or walmart for $5. During the summer we BBQ almost every night and 1 bag lasts at least 2 weeks. My husband uses a chimney starter and no lighter fluid. After eating off of the natural charcoal for so long when we go to peoples homes that use natural gas or propane the food tastes odd lol

My husband refuses to buy cheap charcoal because it doesn't light/stay lit without an entire bottle of lighter fluid. He buys the expensive stuff pre-soaked in lighter fluid.. usually $10 for a small bag which might get us through 2 grilling days. I also have a large family so we need to cook a lot so can't just use a couple coals.. Buying a new propane tank costs around $40.. last I knew. Refilling it somewhere like Home Depot would cost about $20, though I've seen signs at some places.. like little farm and garden shops etc. that they'll refill them for $10 or less.. but I never brought one there. Propane lasts awhile too. I think we generally need to get ours refilled once a year, and we use the grill regularly. When ours was working we were grilling 2-3 days a week or more all year long.. even in the middle of winter. That is another great thing about the gas grill is getting it lit in the rain or freezing cold isn't a huge hassle. Just press a button and it's on! Hey.. to each his own. Please don't assume I'm trying to argue.. if you don't like propane grills.. that's your choice. I'm merely pointing out my feelings on the matter. I do like the taste of food on charcoal.. but for us the cost just isn't worth doing it all the time.. plus the time it takes for the coals to heat up... and then cleaning the old coals out, etc. A gas grill is quick, cheap, and easy. Just scrub the crusties off the grill and turn it on.. no muss no fuss! Now we can grill more often and not heat up the house in the summer.. and we will still occasionally use charcoal as a treat!

Yes, it is a great feeling to find a good deal. Walmart always has good deals and I would shop there often if only there is one within my city limits. I know that your gift would be appreciated! As for me, I am in school so all I could do is give my grandfather a call to bid him a Happy Father's Day as he has always taken care of me like a daughter. Happy upcoming Father's Day!

My problem is I'd have to buy a large package to feed my family.. and that just doesn't seem worth it! Though I suppose I could buy 1 or 2 good steaks from Omaha then get the kids something from the regular grocery store.

Hi. katsmeow1213. You are an angel! Your husband is so blessed to have you as his wife. I am sure that he will enjoy his Father's Day present. That is so very nice of you to take the time to save up for a gift that your husband has always wanted. I would not have passed up this deal at all. You have came across an excellent deal that is reasonably priced. I have not made any plans for Father's Day so far, but soon I will start to though. I hope that you and your husband enjoy Father's Day together. Enjoy eating many delicious foods from this new grill! Be Blessed!

That's awesome! When will we be invited to the bbq - hee hee?! Sounds like you got a serious deal on top of a plan that turned out better than originally planned! It's one of those gifts that keeps on giving too . . . now that warmer weather is here, you can grill away and enjoy many a bbq'd meals for the summer - how cool is that! Your grill = $148, the look on your hubby's face when he sees it = priceless!! Not sure what we will do for hubby on Father's Day yet, but you do remind me that me and the kids need to cook up a real surprise for him. The guy's been working some long hours at work - it'd be nice to get him something super cool. Maybe I'll go check out Walmart and see what deals are there!!

This reminds me of my own gass grill. It was a sunny day yesterday (Sunday), and my game was on. So I had the gas grill out to make some steaks. But first I had to clean it up a bit, because it got so neglected through winter. Mine doesn't have a burner on the side, so if I saw that deal at Walmart, I might have bought that too! It would have saved me from cleaning up my rusty one, and I could finally cook some fish outside which would not stink up the house inside.

My husband will get a lot of use out of that burner. Things like corn on the cob or salt potatoes are too big for the little burner, but sometimes he likes to grill the onions and peppers for our sausages.. and he does them in a pan on the grill. He's never had a side burner before either, so he will certainly love this!

Thanks for reminding. My step dad's birthday is fast approaching and it coincides with Father's Day. Although he can never replace my real father I always give him something for this special day. I have my share of surrogate fathers. My Pastor, My office mate who is like a father to me and other friends that I always remember when its Father's Day.

I can never walk past a good deal if it's something I've got on my mental shopping list. You found a fabulous deal there, and I'm not surprised that you're pleased. Father's Day is on a different date here, but we don't really celebrate 'Days.

We never did either.. especially days that fall too close to a child's birthday. Mother's Day falls too close to my oldest's birthday.. and Father's Day is the same week as one of my other boys.. he'll turn 5 next month! So some years I'm not able to get much for hubby at all.. but of course I always still try my best. Actually hubby's birthday is usually the one that goes by unnoticed. Oddly enough we always seem to be super broke in September. Although this year I'm already thinking about what he's going to get this time. I'm thinking I might go for a really nice leather coat.
