Are you happy for others when they get something special or do you get jealous?

My son and his wife and I bought a new camper. Brand spanking new. It was a deal though and we needed more room so for the extra money we went with a brand new one! I told my youngest daughter about the new camper and she was thrilled for us. However I can't even tell my other daughter as she get jealous and very upset! It's hard to keep a secret like that when we are all so excited. But she just doesn't share in the joy. Do you have friends like that? Or family? Or do you feel just a twinge of jealousy when someone gets something new?

I admit, sometimes I do feel a little envious, but also happy if someone gets something I would like to have. For example, my husband's back is so bad, we can't go camping in a tent anymore, but if we had a pop-up, we could. We can't even afford a pop-up, and yet my neighbor's have this very extravagant camper, with TV, A/C, kitchen and bathroom, and it's huge. If we could just find something with just a couple beds, that would make me happy, but I'd be happier with one like my neighbor has...

Did you ever think about getting one of those blow-up mattresses? Not the cheapies that are plastic, those don't last at all. The one's I'm talking about have a pump that fills them up and it only takes a few minutes. My daughter had one when she was staying with me in a twin size and she was very comfortable sleeping on it. You can adjust the air too and make it to suit your needs, like if you want it softer or harder. It only took a few minutes to let the air out, she folded it up, and it was done. Would that help? I would love to have a camper too, but that's only a dream of course. I'd like to keep it on a lot somewhere so I could leave for a week at a time and get out of the city. Nothing like peace of mind out in the country with the birds and animals keeping you company.

I hope someday you do. I have a friend who said...well I can hardly make it from month to month...and said. I worked two jobs for 18 1/2 years to get to where I am at!!!

We have used those inflatable mattresses for years Kash, no his problem in much worse. even in his own bed, he can't move for a while after waking up, so for him to have to bend down is like nearly impossible for him anymore. It wold be better for him to step up into a camper than to bend over to get into a tent..But that is a good diea for those who have minor back pain..:)

Yes I know people who are terribly jealous of others. It makes for an uneasy feeling when being around a person who is jealous or is green with envy. I had a friend who was always making reference to the fact she couldn't buy this or that and had no money so she didn't have the luxury of buying anything new. Even if I got a pair of new shoes she would be irritated. Am never jealous of another friend or family member when they get something new. Enjoy your camper. I do understand what you are saying about keeping a secret when the excitement builds.

I might feel alittle jealousy initially but very soon all that goes away and I feel happy for the person. It sort of depends on the circumstances too. Does the person need this? Was it a good deal? Is this always happening with this person(over spending). Just one of those situaitons.

To be honest, I dont really care much if someone gets something new or special. The only thing I do get jealous over is when people who dont want kids or are not particularly trying suddenly get pregnant and then suddenly they think they're given some power to be a parent and rub my nose in the fact that I cant be. I'd say its more of a hurt feeling though than jealousy as I'd do pretty much anything to be a mommy.

Maybe because i don care about other people. - People happiness and sadness does not effect me much.
Nope, usually i am ok with other sibling getting they new toy and such going for luxury vacation eating at expensive restaurant, they promotion work bonueses, all this for me is no big deal for me, and i wish them all the best also.I guess because i am simply and need simply stuffs and happy with my i have.Maybe also i am little anti social also and don give damn1 about other people.

I am always happy for someone when they get something new. Especially, if it is something they really need. I would always want someone to be happy for me and always know that they will be in my shoes someday.

Saw someone win a nice chunk of change in the lottery today. Yeah I wished it could have been me, but I was genuinely happy for them.

Hi jillhill, I am always happy for others when things go right for them or when they get something special that they are excited about it. Jealousy hurts everyone involved but especially the person who is jealous of another. It always gives me a good feeling to be able to rejoice with others in their good fortune. Blessings.

Hi jill, No, I don't recall any friends like that fortunately. I'm very happy for you and envious at the same time. Jealous, no, envious, yes. I would love to have a new camper or even an old camper, haha, any kind of camper would do right now, lol! I love nature and love to be out among it with the birds chirping and animals visiting. Soooooo peaceful and that's what I envy. I always wanted to get one and put it on a lot around a lake somewhere, at some campground. Camping was always one place I could go and actually think straight so I always looked forward to it. You are one lucky girl I must say but you deserve it. Happy Camping hon! Does the one daughter who is very jealous come out to camp with everyone? Just curious, or does she just get so mad she won't visit. That's too bad she's like that, she's missing out on the nice feeling of being happy for someone. It makes you feel good inside, doesn't it?

She lives in another state but thinks that I spend too much money with my other kids....everything to her is like a contest. I am so excited! We spend a bunch of time down there....like I told one of my friends though......I worked two jobs for 18 1/2 years to get to where I could afford things I want! So this is my special thing to me! LOL

You sure do deserve it and that's why I said that too. The pleasure you will get from this certainly exceeds the money. And, the way I look at it, it's money well spent! Maybe your daughter really deep down wishes she lived closer and was involved more with the family because everyone is having so much fun together. Maybe it's not so much the money spent, but the thought of her not being part of it all. Jealousy comes in many forms which I'm sure you know. Anyways, take lots of pictures so I can pretend I'm down there with you camping, lol!

If anyone is jealous of me, they don't show it. I'm pretty sure my mom gets jealous at times, she's always been the type. But she no longer shows it much either. I do get jealous of other people quite often. I try not to show it though, because I know that my jealousy does not make the other person feel good, especially when they're excited about something, like a new purchase or a vacation.

My family rejoices when one obtains or succeeds in something but regretfully, I do have friends like that. Two in particular but one is the Queen of jealousy. In fact, the only reason that I am friends with her is because of her wonderful parents and sisters who love in Canada. They thanked me for being friends as she doesn't have many friends or quarrels with them. But she is as jealous as hell

I would rather be upset if I was not told about it. I feel happy when that happens. It is like appreciating something that blooms in someone else's garden. I have noticed this in the present generation. They just don't open up!

Yes I am. We should be happy if something good happens to our love ones. Envy is a sin and it can destroy us. We shouldn't practice it. Everybody has the right to be happy.

I'm usually pretty happy for people. Just because other people get something, doesn't mean anything about what I get, so it's easy to be happy for them. I might be more likely to be jealous if I felt that I never got anything.

I love it when other people get things if they worked hard for it and truly deserve it. I am not jealous of them at all. I am happy for them actually. I would want them to be for me also. I have those types of people in my family too.

I try to be happy for someone when something special comes their way. we are all deserving a little reward in our lives now and then. being jealous of someone else's joy doesn't bring you as much pleasure as you would think.

Yes and yes! My mother had a horrible jealousy streak when it involved her brothers, sisters or daughters. When it came to her friends however, not so much?! Go figure! Now my youngest son has a baby coming. His brothers are very upset about this. They can't speak civilly to him at all! Finally my middle son said it's all about jealousy. I say "whatever". I've never been affected by jealousy that I can remember. I had always wished I was born to a happier family however. My attitude is pride in having an association with anyone who is an achiever. Anything else doesn't make any sense to me!

I feel happy and proud if any of my relative or friends get something for themselves. They worked hard to earn that. It would be a selfish act to be jealous when they get something for themselves, it's there way to reward themselves.
