i was babysitting my ten-moth old niece moments ago when i was having a break here at myLot. i was carrying her and i didn't want to let her in the floor because i didn't want her to get dirty from crawling back and forth. but i got tired of carrying her so i put her down, i let her grab the side of our little telephone table as she walk slowly while holding the sides of it. i was watching her and i was surprised when she suddenly let go of the table and started walking on her own towards me. i was surprised and i got worried that she might fall down but she didn't and she successfully reached me with open arms. i was really amazed because just last week, she wouldn't walk without someone assisting her. and i was happy for the little kid for being brave. i made her walk again and again all by herself and she was enjoying it, not only the fact that she can walk already but also the fact that there are lots of people watching her and getting amazed at her.

Those little milestones just touch your heart don't they. * Next, that little niece will become a little two legged curiosity missile that never knew the concept of caution. Children are the reminder that life is short and so sweet... I've a next door neighbor girl that lets me know that the clock is ticking: she came home a tiny pink bundle, the door opens, she toddled out, and she's started kindergarten today.

a tiny pink bundle huh? that sounded really cute! my little niece usually wears pink clothes too so i think she's a tiny pink bundle too. i wonder how a tiny pink missile would look..

Wow isn't it a great feeling seeing that in babies? I recently saw that with my nephew too and it's really exhilarating. It makes you proud to be present in those few moments that they'd walk independently towards you and smiling. And soon you'd wish that little kid would stay babies and you become afraid of them growing up! Oh how time flies when they're babies, now my nephew has the great ability of pointing to what he wants and creating tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants. Sooner or later he'd start talking and I'm pretty sure the demands would be coming in fast! Hahaha.. Enjoy these moments and cherish them in your heart forever.

yes! i sometimes wish that they won't grow up and remain as babies and little kids. ^__^;; children get so annoying when they start growing up. right? my niece too knows already how to point at things. i think the first she learned to point at are lizards in the ceiling. ^__^;; every moment of their amazing wonders are like treasures.

That reminds me of the story my mom told me. When I was a baby I just got up and started walking while my mom was talking to one of her friends. My mom's friend said to my mom that she wish she had a camera , not for getting a picture of me but to get a picture of the expression on my mom's face.

The best way to describe it is the expression G-d smacked.

your mom's friend must have found your mother's expression to be really funny! your mother must be really awed to see you walking the first time.

That is a once in a lifetime event! For your niece, anyway. Every time another children gains that little bit of freedom, it is like a new miracle, isn't it. However, now her mother will have to run faster to keep up with her. Hubby was just telling me about a toddler who woke up in the middle of the night and walked over a mile looking for a store to buy candy. Lol, now mum will have to lock all the doors!

good suggestion kun. but i think she doesn't need to shout HELP when she falls down because she just have to cry and we would rush to her immediately. ^__^;; the family prefers to hear her say "lola", "mommy", "daddy", "tita", etc.

yep. 10 months old. its early alright but the downside of it is she isn't that talkative yet. she learned to walk early but her speech development is slow. its always like that in kids. early to develop something but late to develop another thing. but it was really fun to see her walking even if she always fall down.

Yeah.. maybe u should teach her to talk now, but not teaching her to say, mama and tatay.. INstead teach her to say, Help.. In case she falls down and needs help, she can say it.. haha

i remember the first time my nephew started walking,,it was a week before his birthday..after seeing him walk...the whole day the whole family train him by playing catch with each other...we throw the ball to another person and he will come walk to that person, and before he can reach the ball we will throw it again..he was happy and really giggling while walking to whoever holds his toy even if he cannot touch it...we are also happy and enjoying while practicing him and see him walk on his own...really an amazing sight. he is now 5 years old and very active kid!

i know! its really amazing to see how little kids would start to walk on their own. i have seen my nieces and nephews when they were still small and they learned how to walk by themselves. its really a wonderful sight. and my niece is really cute because she would let go and try to walk on her own with a smile on her face.

I remember when my oldest son walked alone for the first time. No one expected him to do it, we weren't encouraging him because he was only 9 months old! He'd been walking holding on to people and furniture for a while but he suddenly walked from the sofa to his uncle which was only a few steps but it was a long way for his first lone walk I thought! Sometimes kids just do these things all of a sudden. My other son did the same except that he suddenly started walking at 23 months just after we'd said we'd need him to see a paediatrician if he didn't walk by age 2!

I know. My kids have been total opposites! My late walker was talking properly at 17 months and my early walker wasn't exactly late talking but I couldn't have a conversation with him until he was 2. Also, my early walker still has no co-ordination aged 8 but the little one (now aged 3) has been brilliant at throwing and catching since he was about 1 year old! I know kids can be very different in development but I find it quite strange that mine are so exactly opposite. Luckily, they are both just as lovely and polite as each other!

they said children are not the same. they do things at different times. some kids would learn to talk early and some would learn to talk late. some would learn to walk early and some would be late.

in my niece's case, she's an early walker for her age. but up until now, she doesn't talk much. she only makes noises but that even is not satisfying. she doesn't even say mama and papa or dada. ^__^;; she just hoots like an owl. but when she cries that's when she let it all out! with my little nephew, i think he was an early talker and he learned to walk a little later.

That is cute. I like seeing young babies walk also. I saw both my niece and nephew both start walking when they were lille because I was baby sitting them at the time. My neice was almost one when she started walking and my newphew was 10 or 11 months old.

Wow! that is one thing that really amazes us in children. Even if they are young, we can see the desire to achieve it, just example in walking. like the one with your niece, I can still recall the joyful day when my daughter walks on her own bare feet last year as well...I was really very happy! have a great day! enjoy baby-sitting my friend!

Wow, that's a superb achievement. In times like these, it's best to give our kids rewards for doing so. I know it's hard for them to do that. I'm just amazed with the bravery the kid has shown. It's just amazing.

yes. its amazing alright. its even more amazing now because i think she has slightly conquered the fear of falling. because the first time she learned how to walk by herself, she fell a lot and she didn't want to walk anymore by her own. but now, she's the one letting go of the hand of whoever is holding her and she goes around a lot walking by herself.

Isn't it great to see a milestone in a child's life? It's wonderful to see them gain more and more independence. Glad she is getting stronger so she walk on her own. Take care

Ah, children's stages of development are all their own and all special. That's just a great memory to treasure, you should write something down about it so you can read it in years to come to remind yourself.

Witnessing a baby walk for the first time is and event to remember... i remember my baby was so afraid to walk by herself... but when she finally had the courage to do so... we were quite ecstatic about it... don't worry about her falling down... that is a part of learning how to walk...

And the sight of them walking with lot of unsteadiness falling hither and thither in between their walks is really fascinating.. You must be having a real good time with your niece.. Hello secretbear, Isn't it great? That was what I felt when I first saw my baby son walked on his own for the very first time. I worried that he would fell down but if I kept helping him to walk, he would not be braved enough to try on his own. He was so happy when he managed to walk on his own. Baby are cute, aren't there? Whatever they do, will definitely attract us..the adults.
