| I had to pick up a few things at the store today, dish soap and milk. I had a $10 gift card I used. After the dish soap and milk I figured I still had $3 left over, and I was a little hungry. So I went up to the deli and bought some of their hot chicken. I got a cup of popcorn chicken for my 2 boys to split, and got myself some general tso's flavored chicken. It's really good. So I get to the check out, and my total comes to $10.07. I'd just switched purses, so I had no change what so ever. I don't carry cash as all our money is direct deposited. So now I look like a total fool. I have my $10 gift card, no money, no change.... so what did I do? I charged it to my debit card. What's the smallest amount you've ever charged on your credit/debit card? | | | | | |

| | I think I've charged 0.03 cents to debit before because I didn't have enough to cover. Kind off silly but when you have nothing else to do then you've gotta do that. Sometimes though cashiers are nice and just use change they found and layed on their register. Atleast that's what I'd do when I worked at this one place. Lol, I was always finding change because I swept around areas no one else would. | | | | | | |

| | Oh gee the place didn't have a penny cup in case someone is short? what else can you do though, I try to never use it under five dollars as credit. | | | | | | |

| | That's why I always try to keep the penny cup at my register full of pennies - so people don't have to resort to debiting 7 cents. | | | |

| | What sort of place do you work at? When I worked at a grocery store and at Home Depot, I'd get written up if my drawer was off by more than $1 or so, even if the drawer was over by $1, meaning I shorted the customer. Too many write ups and you could be fired. Thankfully I'd only been written up twice, two days in a row. Day 1 I was over by $20 and day 2 I was short $20. We never did figure that out! | | | |

| | I work at a vehicle dealership and I am the cashier and the accountant so the only one I have to answer to is me! If I'm out by a few cents at the end of the day it's no dig deal, even a buck or two I don't really bother with. It almost always evens out in the end - one day your short a few cents, the next you're over. | | | |

| | Wow, that's a little rude! All I meant was if a customer's bill is $20.75 and all they have is two 20's then I will usually just take one 20 dollar bill rather than break the second. I may rule in the customers favor a little more often than some cashiers but I certainly don't steal. | | | |

| | I have never had to put that little on a debit card before, but I would do it if I had to. Were you at Walmart by chance? I like the boneless BBQ chunks. | | | | | | |

| | Yep, that's where I was. It's the only store I go to. I love those boneless chicken things... I usually get the general tso's, but sometimes I'll get honey bbq too. And the kids love the popcorn chicken. It's a really cheap lunch considering I only get $1 worth of chicken for me, and $2 worth of popcorn chicken fills the boys right up. | | | |

| | I have had to do things like that. The sad thing is why wouldn't the cashier just add it in for you? I worked retail as a cashier for a while and trust me....a ton of people don't want those few extra cents for their change. I would always set it aside and by the end of my shift I would have at least 10 or 15 pennies sitting there. If someone was short change then I would just throw it in for them and at the end of my shift I would give the remaining to my supervisor so my drawer wouldn't be over. Speaking of gift cards ...don't you hate when you only have a few cents left on your gift card and they leave the balance on the card instead of figuring out a way to give you the remaining change?!?! I know it is only a few cents sometimes but in a situation like you had it would have been nice to have that in your wallet. Just a gripe of mine. | | | | | | |

| | Normally I'll just re-use the gift card if there's any change on it. I had a gift card from Christmas that had $2 on it. I added another $10 and we used that a couple weeks ago when we were broke. | | | |

| | That wouldn't happen out here. They would have just taken the $10 and not worried about the seven cents. Or else they would ask you to pay it when next you returned to the store. Just for seven cents? But then I am not a business women and if I were then I would not be successful as I would have just taken the $10 flat. | | | | | | |

| | Well this was Walmart. Such a huge store they aren't going to let me just not pay 7 cents. If I didn't pay I probably would have had to take something off the bill. | | | |

| | You must have been at Walmart. I live 3 minutes away from one and so I go ALL the time. I love the general Tso's and the BBQ chunks! I think I'm the only one in my family that likes the Chicken tenders though,(I eat them with the sweet and sour sauce). But I have actually charged a 4 dollar purchase to a credit card before! I was only about 18 then, I didn't know any better. | | | | | | |

| | that is really funny... i think the cashier should just let you go with 7 cents instead of insisting to charge it to your debit card... anyway, that is life... even when you are short of 1 cent, they will still charge you... for me, the minimum i have ever charged to my credit card is about $2... i never go any lower than that... take care and have a nice day... | | | | | | |
