Socialism Explained |
| |
| An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade, so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less, and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail, because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away; no one will try or want to succeed (or produce). It couldn't be any simpler than that... What about you? Do you think this description fits? | | | | | |

| | The thing with Socialism is that the idea of it works but because of human nature Socialism is not going to work and never will be. There is some part in a human's mind that is greedy - and some people just tend to have that quality more in them than others. So therefore its those people who are going to be the ones, like above aren't studying which is just going to start a spirlling effect downward. So if the world was perfect - socialism would be what would be nice, but in reality I think competition is also healthy. If there isn't competition in this world nobody would want to work harder, be the best, etc. so I don't think we should have socialism. | | | | | | |

| | Boy that's one way to prove a point. I hope that it was every student in the class who actually insisted that Socialism worked because if I was in that class as one who seriously disagreed, and I worked my butt off to get a good grade a still failed I would be ticked off. I hope they learned the lesson. And I hope the teacher still took their grades and graded them as individuals for what I hope would be at least two or three who really did try. Thanks for sharing this. | | | | | | |

| | Hi flowerchilde, All socialists don't think alike but I agree true socialism alone can't work, especially as we think in today's society. I also believe that we must have some Socialism because Capitalism in it's purest form can't work either. Blessings. | | | | | | |

| | fits to a "t" fact is, that if every one did a job they loved - so that shoe makers loved to make shoes and made them for the love of making them, and garbage men picked up garbage for the love of it, etc, then socialism would work, but how many garbage men are doing it for the love of their job, or sewage workers, or street sweepers... heck, how many health care people are wiping old people's butts, or day care workers wiping babies butts are there? | | | | | | |

| | AWESOME, that explain socialism in a nutshell. Socialism rewards failure punishes success, so under socialism why would anyone want to be better than anyone else. | | | | | | |

| | I think that that story should be published in every newspaper and magazine in the world. Here in the United States nobody seems to realize or care that we are falling into socialism and, inevitably, into fascism. When the next three years have passed we will find ourselves as slaves unless we do something quickly. | | | | | | |

| | My only hope is the primaries in 2010.. I don't even put much stock in calling or writing to our senators or congressmen anymore.. I think we get what we vote for, period.. and if we don't know what we're voting for, if public sentiment and media (one and the same?) are what we're going on, yikes, disaster. And I'm afraid that's right where we are. If we (the nation collectively, that is) can shake ourselves awake enough to see the pending disaster(s) and at least get more of a balance in the houses of congress, perhaps rationalization will have yet one last hurrah.. | | | |

| | it was very well portrayed and explained. i like the way he showed what and how socialism works. he made them realized it on their own what it is. It is so ironic that for the longest time we have fought against communism and socialism but haven't we learned from that? i do not have anything against the idealism but what bothers me about socialism is the reality of it all, taking into consideration the human element. it would work if we are all mechanised, but we are not. during the late sixties and the early seventies, the world is fighting against communism and socialism and yet we see "hippies" congregate in communes.today, we are fighting against terrorism and poverty and yet the ones in power are the ones financially terrorizing the world and, under the rug, slowly inducing economic socialism. I saw this coming when the super powers were gearing towards a universal global system in which all nation is directly connected economically. now, look what happened! if one is one trouble, everyone is affected. | | | | | | |

| | that is quite a good example of what socialism is. i don't believe ni socialism as an answer to the world's poverty or any problem facing a country. i believe that we could not take away what one worked hard for and give it to others who has less in life by forced. cause that would be unfair and that will be injustice. and i believe it may create some kind of complacency in people cause they will not give their right due in the hard work that they do cause they will remain the state of life no matter how hard they work in life. that will never work to make a nation succeed in life. no one will want to work hard for other's benefits. it is like giving free lunch to others from our own pocket. every person should strive to make their life better and not expect others to bring them to a better state of life. cause socialism will create passive attitude among the people. | | | | | | |

| | You know, I think that's very true.. that socialism creates a passive attitude among the people.. Instead of seriously thinking over issues, it seems to me like the attitude would be more of what can I get from the government.. but even then, all in all, the getting can be very short lived... and has been in all past experiments with it. | | | |
