Quick! Call a manicurist. There's Been a Car Crash!

I have to chuckle. A woman who has the record for the longest finger nails on a female hand at over 9 metres (nearly 30 feet) collectively has lost some of them in a car crash! Now wouldn't she have been useful when you can't quite reach that itch on your back?

I expect she has them well insured so stands to get a good payout... and, if she wasn't at fault in the crash, I pity the other guy's insurer when she sues!. She could probably have disemboweled herself picking her nose...or, at the very least performed a self lobotomy!

I'm just trying to work out how she could get her nail close to her face to do that! Yuk!

Hadn't thought of that one... she could probably manage the disembowelling though!

Ouch! Actually with nails that long..she wouldn't be bale to do alot..imagine trying to put on make up,tuck in a shirt,do dishes..I bet she couldn't do alot with those nails..probably not even scratch your back since they would have been to long. Makes me think of Edward scissor hands.

Wow. That is some long fingernails. I feel sorry for her that she lost them in a car wreck though. I can never grow mine very long. They chip or break off. I hope she can grow them again. It would be nice to have some long nails for the back scratching at times too.

Morning Aliceeeeee xxx I take pride in my nails and they are probably the only part of me that still get regular attention but I cannot understand the point in them being too long to go about our daily life When they get so that I cannot do certain things for fear of them breaking then they go back to where they were earlier

my nails were all about an inch long prior to my trip to the beach this past weekend but now they are lucky to be poking up past my fingers at all. I had a terrible time putting in my contacts, typing, cooking, etc with them an inch long, I can't even begin to imagine 1 foot let alone 30!!! I can reach all the itches on my back and I don't need 30 ft long fingernails to do so. Geez. Anything for 15 minutes of fame. Now mosey on over and tell me which job to take.

Photo of her Nails - How could she drive at all?
This is what Guinness Records had to say: Guinness World Records was deeply concerned to hear about a car accident involving Lee Redmond, who holds the record for the longest fingernails (female) at a combined length of 8.65 m (28 ft 4.5 in). Her longest single nail is the right thumb: 90 cm (2 ft 11 in). Lee, of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident on Tuesday 10 February, when the vehicle she was riding in was involved in a collision. Sadly, her record-breaking nails were damaged beyond repair in the crash. “As a long-term friend of Guinness World Records, Lee is a fantastic ambassador for the company,” said Editor in Chief Craig Glenday, “appearing on our TV shows around the world and promoting to school children that it’s okay to be different."Losing her nails in such a terrible accident has shocked everyone here at Guinness World Records – they were such a fundamental part of her life and unique character. We all hope that she makes a speedy recovery.” http://www.nowpublic.com/world/holder-longest-fingernails-hurt-loses-nails-car-crash I really question how she could even drive safely. These nails had to be an impediment

I have always wondered how people like that function in everyday life. How does she drive, or does she? How does she cook or shop or anything else?! Too bad about her fingernails but maybe she'll enjoy life more with the dexterity she'll gain!

hi pikefish wow thirty feet lord yes if I had those long nails I could scratch that itch really easy and still close the door to my room and reach across the room for a book or whatnot. Wonder she didnt' lose them all in that car crash.Lets see this room of mine is about ten by twelve feet so I could use my fingernails clear ac ross the room and out in the hall and shut off that loud t.v. thats annoying me in the next room. wouldn't that suprise the owner of said loud t.v.

Gee, you made me think of other benefits. Imagine what you could do when you're waiting in a LONG line at the store, and the customer up front is just standing and gabbing with the cashier? Or to that annoying person who talks on their cell phone during a movie?

Sounds like she'd be useful for back scratching from across the room. I heard that the nail polish industry is investing in the press-on nail market, just in case she attempts to repair them. Other than making it into a World Record Book, why would anyone want nails that long?

How do these people do the paperwork after going potty??? Does some one have to do it for them? Now there's one job I wouldn't want! These people should be given scratching posts & shown how to use them!

I saw that on TV and those nails are horrible!!! Sorry for her, but maybe now she gets nails short enough so she can do something with her hands. Nails that long have their limitations. And they are curved, like a witches! No, I prefer other, more difficult, ways of scratching my back.

I imagine this woman like Freddie Krueger, creeps you out with her long nails. Children must be scared by her nails, I think she cannot even hold a baby, her nails might be broken or scratch the baby's skin! Her life must be pretty tough to keep those nails, somehow I'm sure she must be relieved to have a normal life

You'd think that she'd be glad to lose them. But apparently she's going to grow them again!!!

Hi p1kef1sh Waw! Like other responders had said, I really don't get the point in HOW can she life with her extremely long nails? Okay, maybe she has servants,,but is she need to be bathed by servants too? Because I don't know how she can reach the soap and brush her teeth with that nails on her fingers and I wonder how she can enter the car too.. Did she flip her nails inside the car? LOLz Personally, I don't want to have that kind of nails. I won't be able to play my piano and I guess it will take my time and my money to take care of them! Not my choice to live a fun and free life. Anyway, thanks for make me laugh!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
5 Sep 09
I should think that those nails would restrict her activities enormously. I'd sooner be able to play the piano than have long nails!

6 Sep 09
Exactly! You can finish grade 1 for piano than having nails that long with the same costs I guess

I have just read about that. I don't know how she managed to do things with such long nails and they looked horrible! Apparently, her great-grand children said she should glue them back on! Her nails are still about 4 inches long though but of all those ladies who complain about breaking a nail when they spent a year growing it or whatever, it doesn't really compare to spending 30 years growing them to 24feet only to have 20feet of them "tragically" broken. She said something about it being her "identity". I have to laugh because if you're nails are your identity then you haven't got much of an identity. Although she did say there is more to her than nails. Maybe she can now cuddle her grandchildren without worrying about scratching them to pieces!

Did you see them? They looked awful I thought. I am amazed that she hasn't taken someone's eye out with them. Even at 4" they are still talons. Her grandchildren must be a mass of scratches.

I thought I saw her picture on our local TV station last night so I had to go see. sure enough it was. The article called her a grandmother. My first thought was how could she cuddle with the grandkids. She couldn't have babysit and changed any diapers. The article also said she took care of her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer's. I want to know how she did it. Those nails just look gross to me.

I assumed that she had staff. If she doesn't then I truly don't know how she could manage. She must do everything very slowly and carefully.

I think she would have called her insuarance agent and not her manicurist. Infact if she even knew that suich a thing exists. I believe she must e competing for the world record thats why she was growing her nails what a set back for her. As far as I know its some Indian who holds that record.

LOL. I agree and I bet that she did call her insurance company. An American man holds the record. At least that's who I saw on TV.
