Would you jump my... |

truck? That's what I was in need of today when I went up to the store. After I put the groceries in the back I got in my truck and started it up. Nothing happened. It was completely dead. I tried a few more times. No luck, I was stranded. That is, until a couple (possibly husband and wife?) parked their car in the space in front of me. I didn't beat around the bush. I asked them for a jump...and the woman jumped. LOL It's not what I wanted, but I guess I had it coming for asking it that way. They asked if I had jumper cables so I took a look in the back, but there weren't any. I even looked inside the cab and behind the seat, but they weren't there either. "Great", I thought to myself. "They must be at home." Unfortunately they didn't have any on them either. But then the man said he'd go home and get theirs. The woman said she would go shopping while he was gone. After waiting maybe 15 -20 minutes, the man drives back in the same spot. The woman comes up from behind with her shopping cart. All of us laughed a little about what great timing they had. LOL After hooking both vehicles up, the woman starts up their car. I get in the truck and try to start mine. It was a little sluggish at first, but it started up! Yea! I was so grateful to them for helping me out. I thanked them and headed home. So, would you help someone if they were in need of a jump...for their vehicle? Why, or why not?

sacmom (5779) | 3 months ago | I'll say it was! If anything I was expecting them to say sorry and walk away. When the guy told me he'd go to his house and get the cables I was in shock! I couldn't believe it! I was thanking them both before he even left to get the cables.
I'm not sure what kind of jumper cables my husband has, as I've never paid attention, but I think it needs to be plugged into a standard wall socket. I like the idea of not messing with the engine. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

3. horsesrule (1791) | 3 months ago | Yes, I would help to give a jump start to someone who needed it. I agree with the other people who responded to your discussion, it must be during the day only and in a public place with plenty of people around, otherwise, no, I can not take the chance. Our world has a lot of dangerous people in it these days and I believe we must follow some safety guidelines and just be careful.

sacmom (5779) | 3 months ago | It's always a good idea to take precautions.
I didn't want to ask, but I didn't have a choice. At least it was during the day and in a public place. I'm so thankful everything worked out in the end.

4. KrauseHome (13385) | 3 months ago | Well, unfortunately even if someone's care would need jumped and we or they had cables, there is no way it would be safe for us to give them a jump. Unfortunately with a lot of the Newer cars the computers in them are not made to give others a jump without damaging the vehicle so that is not a plus for sure. But instead, I would try to make sure they could get some help from somewhere for sure.

AmbiePam (15211) | 3 months ago | Sad to say, but if I actually had jumper cables and knew how to use them, I'd only feel safe assisting women. I realize that wouldn't guarantee me safety, but I'd have a better chance of coming away safe from any incident in question.

I don't blame you Amber. However, what if the woman was a bodybuilder and had muscles like a man? Would you still help her out then? (Sorry, I just had to ask! LOL)

sacmom (5779) | 3 months ago | Thanks Amber. Me too!
Funny thing is, I usually do my shopping in the evening. And with the time getting shorter, it's getting darker earlier now. The only reason I went up during the daytime like I did was to put my husband's check in the bank, otherwise I probably would have went shopping later on in the day. I sure am glad that I didn't as I wouldn't want to get stuck at night!
I hate to say it, but I don't know how to use them either. I really should learn how, so that I don't have to rely on someone else to put them on for me. Or better yet, get some that don't require the use of another car, like this one I found through Wal-Mart:

7. BCMike (3316) | 3 months ago | When my wife and I first got together, her neighbour friend who was reasonably well assembled came by and asked if I would come over to her house and jump her. That was an offer most guys don't get I thought... Oh you mean a boost??? Rats. But yes. I be right there...

sacmom (5779) | 3 months ago | So, what did your wife think about that? Or did you never tell her?

|
|
BCMike (3316) | 3 months ago | What was funny was the look on my wife's face when this girl asked her to send me over to jump her. She said this twice. Once to my wife and once to me.
She just didn't click on what she was saying. Maybe I am too much of a male pig though...

BCMike (3316) | 3 months ago | There is not one man alive today that is not a pig. In fact, there are lots of guys that lack opportunity.
Every man when confronted by the right woman, in the right place, at the right time, with no concern of being caught, will cooperate in a sexual transaction.
30 years of driving cab at night taught me a lot about people. I was an observant pupil while driving.
People's behaviours vary considerably when they are away from spouses and colleagues. I have seen the most upstanding people doing less than upstanding things in taxis and bars. Especially when they are away from home.
Ladies, I don't care what you think of your loving husband. He is a man. And he can and will fall if the conditions are correct. He still loves you and the kids. But he won't be able to help himself.
Why is it that women see such great competition with another woman. Especially if that other woman is visually appealing?
So yes, ALL men are pigs.

8. corrycrystal (926) | 3 months ago | Oh you were lucky that someone was there when you could really use some help. If I am not alone and it is in a public with many people around, I would definitely trying to help, otherwise I would just give an emergency number for the person to call. It is just me being extra cautious because these days, there are so many bad things happen that you would not expected. Blame it on those 'crazy' people that have turn some of us into some uncaring minded citizens!
