First really cold night

in the new bedroom... The cats were oh so helpful! I kept fighting to pull up my covers! The big wind chime in the back is beautiful sounding and restful... That was the one thing I was kind of worried about - this room is on the west side of the house and pretty unprotected, yes, its insulated and has a heating vent, but has a big window and is a tiny room. I guess I'm going to have to be even more worried about having an air conditioner right in bed with me this summer! Don't think it got below freezing, last night, just cold, windy and raining off and on. And lets see... it was 80ยบ on Friday! How's your winter been?

It really sounds quite nice and serene. You just keep fighting for those covers, haha, the kitties have enough fur to keep them warm snuggling up against you. And you're right, it probably will be cooler in the summer and that's wonderful. It's so hard to sleep when it's hot outside and hotter inside. And running the air can be quite costly after a while. Our winter (knock on wood right here on my desk) has been awesome this year. These type of winters I can take...very little snow, blizzards, ets. In fact, it's been in the 50s and 60s quite a bit. I just love it. The winter months usually get me down but not this year. It's even more sunnier than usual which keeps me in a better mood. We still have a ways to go though and all I can do is keep thinking SPRING!

Hey, you're in the same state as me! Although I'm farther south. I lived in Cleveland once and the winds coming off the lake were absolutely FRIGID!!! Isn't it odd how the winter has been so mild...my neighbor says we'll undoubtedly pay for it this month or in March!

LOL I expect the cats to HELP keep me warm, not interfere with it! I know for sure at one point I had 8, but I suspect there might've been another one or two.

Hi dragon, Yes, the winds off the lake are really, really frigid when it's cold. I live about 20 minutes or so south of the lake so I do miss some of the clippers that come in and leave a nasty trail of snow and wind. Most of it goes more east of Cleveland and I'm fine with that, lol! Yes, it's been really odd this year. I can only remember a couple of winters past which were similiar over the last 20 years or so. One Christmas eve I went fishing in the morning ...that's how warm it was. I so hope your neighbors are wrong! I'm just going on my merry way and I'll keep thinking SPRING!

Cats and dogs are SO helpful in the winter!! My two dogs keep me warm and cozy every night, bless their hearts. Our winter here in Ohio has been strangely mild. No big snowfalls and lots of dry, sunny days. I'm not complaining! But it's weird. We usually have a lot of snow by now plus some ice, sleet and freezing rain. I'm sure we'll pay for it later, as my neighbor said, but for now I'll just enjoy it.

My winter has been pretty tame. I got my electricity bill yesterday and it was 30 dollars less this year than it was last year at this time.

We've done very well on the heating bill too (heat with gas) so we have many ways to remind us that its been a pretty mild winter on the whole... but last night was cold.

It's freezing here, and as the sky has just darkened I'm wondering if we will have snow. We can tell it's cold, as we can't see our bed for cats and dogs! The bed is in front of the woodburner, and I don't think they have left their spots other than for essentials for days. Don't blame them at all.

No snow. For which I am very grateful. I was up at 3am, getting the woodburner on. So cold!

Ours sounds a lot like yours, actually. It got to near 70 two days ago then, yesterday, it started snowing! We got about 1" of snow, albeit very wet, heavy snow. We have perennial flowers poking up about 4 inches out of the ground right now. None are in bloom but they've definitely made their presence known. It has been an immensely unseasonable winter with temps way above normal for the most part, only a few days with temps near normal. So, naturally, the poor flowers, bushes and trees are confused. I have buds all over one bush and they were covered with snow this morning. Luckily, it's been around 40 and most of the snow has melted. I'm wondering what this means for the fruit trees and the flowering plants this spring. I hope this insane weather hasn't killed what should be a beautiful spring. I just hope this doesn't mean that we're in for another horribly dry, hot summer. That one we had 2 years ago SUCKED!

We had a really cold winter last year, and the hottest summer on record - so I hope the mild winter will lead to a mild summer!

I hope you're right. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Maybe this mild winter is just what my cherry trees want although I wouldn't bet on it. I've had cherries grow on my trees for the past two years but they stayed small and bitter because of the weather. I wish we'd have at least one year where the trees get exactly what they want because I'm so anxious to pick my own Rainier cherries.

My winter is -20 degrees at night at the moment. It's not possible for me to sleep on one side of the bed since it's too close to the window. although I covered the window with a thick blanket. To keep warm we have to keep the heath on (still its cold and windy inside) we sleep with pyama's and more and socks and hot water bags (and we hope we don't need to go to the toilet). I hate the cold and more cold and windy!

I would opt for a heavy blanket over that window, I think. Also, a heated mattress pad is really nice. We use ours a lot, clear up until summer. Great for those body aches.

Seems I remember you live somewhere north of lots of places. I have a big old window next to the bed, and I need to get a curtain on it, but haven't yet, part of this whole remodeling thing - I hung something up for light blockage and some privacy, but its not really a curtain... Actually, its one of those yard flags I had it hanging in the doorway of my old room...

It's been okay. we have only had a few really cold days but other than that it's actually been quite pleasant. Except of course, for the rain, but that is only a problem when we leave the apartment.

Our winter has been exceptionally mild, and dry. We did get rain in my part of the state, and snow out west, I think it was Thursday. Your fibro might benefit from a heated mattress pad. I am not understanding from your post, are you going to be too cold with an a/c come summer, or not cool enough?

here in Canada, we have had cold off and on and just a little bit of snow. certainly not our typical January for sure. we have had spring like temperatures even on some days (with rain! which is really unheard of for January here!) Makes me wonder what the summer will be like (hope its not too hot!)

We find that cold winters seem to lead to hot summers, but mild winters often lead to mild(er) summers... I hope that's the case for you.

Sounds like the cats just wanted to be helpful. My cats are more the types who will sleep right up against you or even on you if it's cold enough in the room. Actually, if it's that bad, they aren't above tunneling under the covers to stay warm. First and foremost, the bed (and everything else) exists for their comfort.

We have very few who burrow, because we have so many that will pounce on anything that is burrowed! However, I had at least ONE on top of me most of the night and another 4 pressed against me... the others were cuddled together... yeah everything is there for their comfort... except when I kick them out of bed to regain it!

It's not been near as cold here as it usually is in the winter. There has been a few cold snaps but that has been about it. I pile the chihuahuas up with me and I stay pretty warm and cozy. I used to worry about doing that..I was afraid I would roll over on them but they just get out of the way or re-position.

here we have had a winter that has been most days in the 30's and 40's. Not alot of snow either! We had two small snow storms this winter! Last winter we had well over 30 inches by now! Very strange and I am sure if we don't get late snow we'll have a very rainy spring and summer again! dang that global warning!

ROTFL!!! It's so nice to know I'm not alone in having helpful kitties in bed with me!!! Willy, who has become the main kitty in my life (Shhhh, don't let Bill know this, Bill thinks he's the only "man" in my life!)always sleeps beside me and manages to hog the covers. Who needs a husband when you've got a 22 pound furry bundle of love that steals the covers and snores? Then Khuay sleeps between my legs, with Dinglebeary sleeping at my feet. If I need to get up in a hurry to go to the bathroom hang it up! Murphy sleeps by my head when it gets cold in the house, otherwise she has her select spots in the work room. My bed is against a south facing window and I ended up taking a blanket and using it to add insulation to the drapes. It's amazing how a double layer of blanket over the drapes helps keep the cold out. I did that when I lived in Montana and it looked more like a house at war than a peacetime home...but I didn't really care as it kept the place comfy. I also tacked up a quilt over the sliding glass door to the patio so that the work room wouldn't be so darned cold. I have been trying to get tons of bears cut out so I can start earning some extra money and pay off some bills that have gotten tedious. BTW, both Willy and Khuay send hello's to you. Willy got upset that I didn't say his "HI's" right away and he left, but Khuay the crazy is on the arm of the couch patiently waiting. MEOW!!! So far our winter has just been cold without too much rain, but the end of February and the beginning of March usually bring us the rains. A lot of people have found out what happens when they get stupid and drive beside the water. Last year one member got stuck, got his friend's four wheel drive Caddy stuck, got three tow trucks stuck and got another member stuck in the mud. It was fun to watch everyone struggling to get through the muck, mud, and mire. Then one of the private owners came in with his winch and got everyone unstuck. Talk about a lot of red faces as he only has a Ford F150!!! Our highs have been around 66 - 70 depending on where you check the temperature. But I can live with that, just not the -40's. We have had a few days in the low teens, but it wasn't too bad, except that the water bed heater quit and the bed got too cold to sleep in. Bill bought me a new heater and a new bladder so I essentially have a brand new bed, and it's toasty warm now. Thankfully since I took a major fall last Wednesday and new aches and pains are still showing up. I'm going to start a discussion about the fall as soon as I'm done here. So much for my winter, I can't wait for the true spring so I can start planting flowers, herbs, and veggies.
