Thank you for all your kind words in reaction to our aborted Florida Keys trip.
Some of you might not know that this was a belated 50th Anniversary trip from 2020 that we delayed due to COVID-19. We had planned this trip for 2 years.
We are still very disappointed and having many regrets. Perhaps we should have tried to at least get out of Ohio. I had to use a stool to get into the minivan and into the hotel bed at night which was another disadvantage. I don't think that the driving would have gotten better; but we could have devised a plan for not taking so much luggage into the room at night.
Regardless, it's over and done; and I have to get rid of these feelings of guilt and regret. I keep thinking that I should have told hubs to give it another day.
Hubs doesn't want to pay our housekeeper to unpack the luggage; so he will do it a little bit at a time. In the meantime, our living room is full of luggage. We haven't returned the car yet because the rollator and wheelchair are still in it. We have to return it before the weekend or we will be charged another 2 more days of rent.
A word to the wise: Do as much traveling while you're still young and fit. You will be glad that you did!

So sorry you didnt get to finish the trip. Maybe you can make plans to do it next year that allow for the extra needs for your comfort. That would give you time to check out different hotels and what they offer for sleeping.

@LindaOHio I think you will manage beautifully next year. One year older is not that old. It is your disappointment that makes you say so.

So sorry you couldn't take that trip. Oh, Happy 51st anniversary when it finally comes around. I hope all will go well the next time you attempt an adventure.
Yes, I agree, it's best to travel when you're young instead of trying to travel when you're in your 70s, at 72 I'm no longer interested in traveling ..... well, not for long stretches just the occasional short ones.

@rebelann Hubs wants to try again next year; but I would have to do some of the driving; and I am afraid to drive anymore. Ten years ago I drove all over; and it didn't bother me.

I am sorry you could not undertake that vacation. I am also old, and I realize that traveling in later ages is a tough proposition. I wanted to take dad around, initially I did not have monies, then job responsibilities, then case, and now covid. I guess it was not in his luck. May be I can still find a nice caravan and take him around.

@LindaOHio Here, we don't get caravans and RVs without a driver from the owner. So the guy not only drives and cleans up but also fetches things for us.

it is really hard, I remember when the twins were little we went to Disneyworld. we actually had 8 suitcases and only one person to lug them around (me).
it can be way too much!

When I was young we never had a family trip and I told myself that when I would have my own family, I would have as many trips while we still could. And so I did. Every summer vacation my family and I would go on a trip somewhere nice. We have brought our son to places we could all enjoy. We have traveled to some countries as well. It only stopped during this pandemic. And I wish that we could do it again soon coz we are not getting younger anymore.

Driving on the roadways today is ridiculous. Going through certain areas (cities) is like trying to drive in a parking lot. I just drove to visit my brother in NC and traffic on a weekend going down was brutal. So may drive today causing so much traffic congestion. Travel has become a headache!

I am sorry about the trip.
You are right that one should travel more when young but sometimes there are situations that don't allow us to do so. I have seen many who travelled around the globe after retirement.
