Open wide - mouthwash for horses

One of the horses here has a dental problem and each morning, I use a ‘gun’ to squirt something into each side of its mouth. The photo shows the bag containing the solution with a tube that runs the solution to the gun. This apparatus is more commonly used for drenching sheep.
I put the bag on my shoulder then poke the silver tube (top right of the photo) up the side of the horse’s mouth and pull the trigger. Luckily, Uma likes the taste and is quite happy for me to do this. She is the boss of the three and waits for me at the shed door. I don’t even need to put a halter on her. I just put my hand around her nose, insert the tube and pull the trigger. Then I do the same the other side.
The owner gave me the option of doing it or not so I missed the first two mornings to let the horses get used to me. I also missed one morning when they were late coming for their breakfast but it hasn’t been any trouble.

A minty fresh smell for the mouth, but the poop still smells like poop!
Seriously, I’m glad they have such things for horses. Wish they had something like that for dogs. They can only clean a dog’s teeth by knocking them out.

Uhm... there are actually dog chews, like DentaBone, that clean and freshens a dog's breath while cleaning his teeth. Walmart sells them and a lot of people swear by them.
But, you're correct, it won't do anything to make their poop smell better.

@DaddyEvil — I tried those things and they didn’t really slow down the need for Freckles’ teeth cleaning. I did have a “doggie toothbrush” and chicken-flavored “toothpaste” that she loved. Goldie, however, wouldn’t let me brush her teeth.

@FourWalls I wouldn't have the patience to brush their teeth. It took everything I had to brush Pretty's teeth when she was too little to brush them herself.

That doesn't sound like any fun to me...
But maybe the point isn't having fun, except for the horse.
Has Vince offered to try the equipment out on your teeth yet? It might be something fun to do when you're both bored.

@DaddyEvil There is not a lot left in the bag so I'm leaving it all for her.

From where did you learn caring for horses? It's a difficult task.

@dgobucks226 I've seen a horse (article) about a pony with a prosthetic leg.

@JudyEv We have had dogs and cats as pets. Dogs were not much of a problem but cats hid under tables and we could not get them out and the Vet had to return. Now I have a homoeopathy spray for Peppie to spray on if he gets wounded and that too is not easy. He gets the smell and runs out of the house. I therefore leave things to destiny.
