Happy Thanksgiving to my MyLot friends. Are you doing anything special today?

I miss Thanksgiving gatherings with my extended family. We used to gather in Chicago, Montana, New York or Washington, with family members coming in from all around the world. But the hosts of these gatherings have moved on to the next coil, grown older and tired of being hosts, or simply become tired of travel. I'll be spending this afternoon and evening with friends here in California. I have spent many Holidays with them, and it will be an enjoyable occasion. But I admit to missing the gatherings with my own family, spread out as we are. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, how will you be spending it? Does your extended family still get together at Christmas, if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving?

We don´t celebrate Thankgiving here. But I think it is a nice holiday for all but turkeys

The turkey in the photo I attached was attacking his own reflection in a chrome bumper. They are not "brilliant birds."

@TheHorse When we were raising turkeys, a Tom turkey reached up and snagged an old receipt out of my pocket. So maybe not so dumb a bird?

I’ve had my turkey and taters, and I’m ready for some apple pie!!! I’m just lounging around the house today, taking the day off. I deserve it. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Kitty!

@TheHorse — I’m not as watchful as Don Henley’s lawyers on You Tube, but I couldn’t pass it up to point out that you’re quoting “Deportees” again…. But it is Thanksgiving and quoting Arlo Guthrie is the way to go! Now, go have a Thanksgiving dinner that can’t be beat, and watch out for officer Obie.

Thanks, FourWalls. Did you notice that I resisted the temptation to say my family is "scattered like dry leaves" around the world? I think you busted me for that bit of "micro-plagiarism" a few years ago

@FourWalls OK, link me to the Arlo song. Deportees is probably my favorite Woodie song.

Same here with the next coil thing. Nice that you have friends to spend the day with. I miss the old days when the family was together. I have great memories though so that is nice. I am having a special dinner. I am having a special time with what family I have here. I am watching some special on tv too. So three specials today isn't bad. Haha

I used to host one of the family gatherings at Thanksgiving. Since we moved into this small house, we don't have room to play hosts and nobody else in the family took over the job. Pretty and I had our Thanksgiving dinner last Sunday. I hope your holiday goes well, pony.

I drove to my son's for Thanksgiving. He made a prime rib and we had fancy breads, cheeses etc. My daughters are back home with all of them sick. I don't see my siblings or families anymore. They are in CA.

At some point over Christmas I expect to get together with my sister. There is just the two of us now. We'll also get in touch with the remaining five of Vince's six siblings. One passed away some years ago and one lives in Bali so we won't be visiting him but Vince will no doubt email.

All of my husband's family is gone except for cousins. We spend Thanksgiving alone. We are the oldest survivors in his family. We bought a pre-made dinner from Giant Eagle. It wasn't bad; and I ate too much! Hope you had a good day with your friends.

@LindaOHio A friend and I had just gotten back from a hike on Mt. Diablo. This was a couple of years ago. As we were approaching my truck, we spied this Jake (young male) defending his hens against his own reflection in the shiny wheels and bumper of a pick-up truck (not mine). I shook my head and snapped the picture.

Well, I've pardoned my turkey and had hamburger steaks with mushroom gravy. Our family, no longer celebrate holidays, our family mostly passed, so we decided not to celebrate. I usually am home, puttering around the kitchen, cooking something not too much leftovers. Tv and meal with dessert for holidays. As I've aged, like comforts y home. Happy Thanksgiving. Would you know it, my wall socket got clogged, on one side. Being afraid of fire hazard, I texted my Resident Manager about it. He came to look at it, today, Thanksgiving day. He'd like an electrician by tomorrow. Our landlord opens on Monday, so I'm waiting for now, about what'll happen. Guess it best to get it fixed quick.

Oh snap. I hope it gets fixed quickly. Pardoning your turkey was kind. I'm not sure how the hamburger steak feels about it, though.

@TheHorse Ok, ok, you got me. Itsy not a fire hazard, so coming week it'll be fixed. Going to ask about hinges, if it'll get fixed. Not imminent so so busy handyman, has hinges at bottom of to do list. It's ok.

We get together at Thanksgiving. Fewer people every year now. We go to my brother's house. I may not go again, but will visit other times. There are somethings in my life that are making me sad and this emphasizes it.

I'm from Europe, so I've never celebrated Thanksgiving myself. I would one day like to attend a Thanksgiving celebration. I've seen it on TV shows so many times, and it seems like a fun tradition.

I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. I, of course, was hanging out with my cats and all day I have been watching old Thanksgiving Day Parade videos on YouTube remembering when ages ago mom and I watched together in NYC while the turkey was cooking. Finally, after all the singing and music, my Ringo sat at the edge of the table and also started singing.
