2/5/24 - Update on Hubby

I spoke with both the nurse and the doctor yesterday. The doctor ordered a CT scan; and they sedated my husband so that they could complete the procedure. It came back negative for a stroke. I mentioned the medication problem that hubby had previously. The doctor said it was possible that something they are giving him might be causing the problem BUT that it was quite common for older patients to suffer from hospital delirium. They become confused, combative, etc. in a new situation.
I got a call from a nurse's aid last night. Hubby had been trying to call me and couldn't get through. He most likely wasn't dialing correctly. When I talked to him, he wasn't too bad; but he was a little bit hard to understand. He said that he felt tipsy but he hadn't had any alcohol -- most likely from the sedatives. He tried to write down our home phone number but was unable to get the numbers right.
The nurse's aid said that she must stay in his room and watch him because he keeps trying to get up and walk. He is too unsteady on his feet to do that.
When I talked to the nurse, I asked her about Alzeimer's and dementia. She said the CT scan doesn't detect that. He would have to have an MRI. That's all I can remember right now.
Our housekeeper will be coming over today to do the trash and a bunch of other things that I need.
Thank you again for your prayers and thoughts. I'm really scared what my husband will be like when he comes home.

I am still praying. I know this is worrisome .Don’t lose hope. This can still end well.

If he is, he probably isn't suitable to be at home. I don't think you have the ability to care for him in the way you would like..not without supports at least. Maybe you could talk to the social worker about getting something like that set up.
. All the best for you and hubby.

I'm praying very hard for you Linda and your hubby. Hopefully they'll be able to figure out what's going on and maybe adjust his medications. It doesn't sound like he'll be coming home anytime soon.

I wonder if something is causing pressure on a part of his brain that gives him these abilities. Will he be having an MRI? Prayers for both of you.

Linda, I know this is so hard on you. Remember
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

@LindaOHio That is so sad. Has the doctor diagnosed that? If so, maybe there are some meds to slow the progression.

@lovebuglena I have no idea. I just talked to the nurse; and she said that they put him in restraints again. I could just cry.

I hope he improves soon. Maybe the doctor can order an MRI while he is already there.
Are they talking of releasing him? I hope you can find some proper help to care for him if he comes home soon. I am sorry you are having to go through this, take good care, Linda.

@MarieCoyle I also spoke with the lady that does research before the patient gets released. There is a possibility that he would need to go to rehab; but I'm fighting for home rehab.

From your writings, it does seem like he needs to be there right now. It's good that you talked with the doctor and the nurse.

I am sorry to hear how things are going for him, and that all does sound scary, especially worrying about when he does come home. When you mentioned him getting up and trying to walk out there, that reminded me of my grandfather...he got to the point he would get up every couple of minutes, then go back to the room, and back and forth. He had lewy body dementia. Hopefully that's not the case and it's not dementia at all for your husband, I just watched my grandpa struggle with that for a couple years.
