3/15/24 - Update on My Husband

As of this moment, as far as I know, my husband will be transferred to rehab today. I will believe it when I see it.
The swelling is down in his arm; and his blood pressure has supposedly been controlled. As far as I know, he is still in AFIB.
I thought we were going to see him tomorrow; however, his cousin wants to use my car to go to rehab or Cleveland Clinic -- wherever he is. I've never lent my car to anyone; and I worry about insurance liability. Her car needs a new battery; and her husband will be taking the truck to go get a battery. My leaning is toward not going to see my husband as hard as that is.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

I have never known insurance to not cover a driver who has permission to drive your car. Not ever. As long as she has a license, and it is in good standing with no restrictions, there should be no problem. Call your insurance if you are in doubt for some reason. You don't want to risk not getting to see him, that is the most important. It obviously helps both of you for you to get to see him.

I really don't want to take the chance of her getting into an accident. We will have to go another day.

@LindaOHio
It is your decision to make, and you have to do what you feel is right for the time.

She should be covered driving your car. Call them to make yourself feel better. You need to go see him and I know you trust her driving, at least some.

She drives too fast and follows too close. Just like my husband!

I don't blame you for not wanting to lend your car out. I allowed a former roommate to drive mine and she managed to get into an accident with a Mercedes nonetheless!

@LindaOHio If someone else wants to drive your car, they will need their own car insurance with driving other cars cover. They will not be covered under your policy. For emergency a temporary insurance can be subscribed.

I'm not going to take a chance. If she gets in an accident, it goes on our policy.

I don't know how the insurance situation but if you're not sure or you're uncomfortable then don't lend the car.
I hope your husband is feeling better and that you can see him.

Why don´t you call the insurance and explain the problem including your husband´s illness if needed? I have placed your husband in a colective prayer group that Dixie has.

Hopefully he will be, or was moved...and hopefully you can still go see him. I drive my mom's car all the time, never thought about insurance!

Yes, better confirm if he is really in the rehab. It's good if his blood pressure is under control.

Like many others I will say you should check with your insurance. I will also say that both for you and for him it is important that you get to go see him.

I really don't blame you for not lending your car, I don't lend mine to anyone either, but until your hubby is back to his old self it may be wise to let your insurance company know to put his cousin on your policy so she's covered when she drives your car.

Better than that, I'm not going to let her use the car. Too much of a chance that she might be in an accident.

Glad he’s doing better. Insurance is so screwy you’re right to be suspicious…not of your cousin-in-law but of them. You can call and they’ll tell you that it’s okay as long as you’re in the car, then if (God forbid) something happens, they’ll tell you it isn’t covered.

I say go with your gut Linda. If you feel uneasy about having the cousin drive your car then maybe you should wait until she gets her own car back. I'm sure your insurance will cover her as a driver but you have to do what you feel is right for you.

Praying your husband gets transferred, and praying your car stays safe. I have lent my car many times...most of the time all was well. Had a couple of problems, but for the most part people drive safer when they know the vehicle isn't theirs, and may be responsible if an accident occurs...I know I always do. I understand the leaning to not going to see your husband...it is hard to see them sick and I always worried about being in a place where Sick people are..especially now days. Prayers coming your way ?
