4/23/24 - Update on My Husband

I received an email because there was a charge on my credit card that was over $100. Turns out hubby's cell phone bill is $127. We usually get charged $22. He must have limited minutes on his plan. We will have to cut our phone calls short from now on. We have received notices of bills from Cleveland Clinic, etc. for $87,000 and $203,000; and I'm sure they're not done yet. Our portion is very small compared to the totals. Thank God for health insurance!!!! Hubs is still walking with a walker. He's not strong enough yet to stand alone or attempt steps. I'm still hoping that he will come home in May. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Thank God that you have insurance! It would be overwhelming if you had to burden the full cost of the healthcare on top of everything else going on.

@LindaOHio It is. Where does it all go? To the executives?

@LindaOHio I believe they overcharge on purpose because they know the insurance companies will only pay a fraction of that amount. So the more they charge, the higher the dollar amount will be that the insurance companies pay. It’s sad that they do this, but they’re just playing the game. The system isn’t perfect by any means.

The cost of medical care is crazy, doctors and hospitals charge too much. I hope your husband can manage to attempt steps to he can come home in May.

Those prices are outrageous. I’m sure health insurance doesn’t cover a lot of it. Like they can charge whatever they want but insurance doesn’t have to pay for all of it from what I gather or even a lot of it. What happens if a person doesn’t have health insurance?

@LindaOHio You can't pay everything they charge. I remember when my dad was in the hospital for over a month (where he actually passed away) a piece of mail came to him some time after that said not a bill but the amount was many hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why bill someone that is no longer alive?

@lovebuglena They did that with my FIL too. They probably expect the family to pay.

I have been praying for your husband to come home. those are huge amounts of bills. I am so grateful you have insurance! I have somebody in my family who had surgery a few weeks ago and it cost $38 thousand but they only paid a few thousand dollars I don't understand why are you paying to talk on the phone. is it a cell phone? I don't think I have to pay money to talk. But then I refuse to answer my cell phone. I pay $32 along with tax every month Have a super day.

My husband's cell phone must have a limited amount of minutes each month. We have gone over that limit.

@LindaOHio That sounds bad. They should give people as long as they need to talk without setting limits. Out of curiosity, if someone used a cell phone and went over their minutes and then needed to call the police would they be charged even though they may have an emergency?

@LovesEverybody I doubt if 911 calls count toward the total minutes.

Hospital bills go up really fast . It is good that you have insurance. Two years ago when my husband fell in the street he had to have surgery on his leg the bill was over one hundred thousand.. We only had to pay $500. Which was cheap since the bill was over one hundred thousand.

@LindaOHio Understand that. I knew that insurance was a big help for my grandparents - my grandpa's infusions would have been like 30,000 every month. They still had to pay like 1,000 dollars though each time. I know I couldn't afford any of my meds either without it. My once a week shot would cost around 1,500 without insurance

I’m sure you miss him terribly and you haven’t been able to visit him in quite some time since you’ve been sick. I know you worried a lot about him catching what you have, I’m just glad he didn’t. Now we hope you can get well enough to see him soon. The cost of medical care is as crazy as everything else but yes, I am glad you have insurance!!
