10/8/24 - Update On My Husband

The social worker called from the rehab facility and said that the physical therapy guy has taken my husband as far as he can go and wanted to know when I would transition him to home. They are basically kicking him out. He will be coming home on Saturday. This is going to be a major life change for both of us. As much as I want him home, it makes both of us nervous. I hope he can handle it. Today I will be taking my husband's 2nd cousin to Longhorn Steakhouse. I have a coupon for a free appetizer. This will help repay her for all the things she does for us. She will be picking my husband up on Saturday and carting all his belongings back home. It will be at least a couple of trips. She also picked up a 4" stack of records from the facility for the appeal. She will also be the one to mail everything out for us. Looks like the grab bar will be up just in time!!! Thank you for all your support, prayers and thoughts during these 8-1/2 months. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I know that makes you happy. I guess we will just have to see how it goes. Is he being set up to get PT at home?

@MarieCoyle Not yet. My husband needs to call the insurance company and find out what they will pay for. They wouldn't give the info to me.

He will get 2 weeks of in-home PT. After that he has to go out to a facility.

@LindaOHio Linda, do you have another caregiver lined up, so that the nurse cousin can have days off? I worry that you will need someone besides just her.

It is a day I actually thought would never come. I understand the "curse and a blessing" part. But I am sure the both of you will settle in to a "new way of life" rather quickly. I think his recovery will be better at home surrounded by love anyway.

He may have just needed this push. I know any more improvement on his part will be from his motivation. I am glad you are getting that grab bar and mailbox installed.

He will be a little miffed about the mailbox. He had this crazy idea that HE would be able to put it up.

I'm not too sure if I want to say congrats or thank god he's coming home cause from the way it sounds that don't sound too promising, it sounds like they have gave up on him or he has gave up on his self 1 of the 2.

I knew that would eventually happen. There's only so much physical therapy can do. Our in-home physical therapist said the same thing. George needs some out patient therapies, but that'll be delayed. I've had many rounds of PT, too. Because of my CP I get pt everytime I go to the doctor over anything short os a stubbed toe. And, they get to a point where they're like, the best form of therapy is life. You just have to start living your lives. that's really the best medicine.

So thankful that he’s coming home! Dog him, tell him to keep his strength up (I tend to forget my back exercises until my back starts hurting), be careful, and have him contact the VA!
