7 days until spring.
Lo and behold a Kinetic technician showed up yesterday. Said he had an appointment; but I knew nothing about it. He set up the phone so it's now under Kinetic/Windstream; and the telephone number has finally been transferred. I have to call Spectrum today to double-check if I can take out the Spectrum modem and return it to them.
The visit with the lawyer went pretty well. It was great to hand off 3 sets of paperwork for him to handle. He even offered to transfer the title on the house which saves me a lot of walking around the Courthouse. There is a problem with a small insurance policy that my husband's parents bought for him. They are requesting that the transaction be handled as an estate which could mean going to probate court. The lawyer is going to try and get a "release" since the amount is so small. I hope he can do it because that will delay everything if it has to go through probate; AND I have to make a list and $ amount for ALL assets that are being transferred to me. That would be a real pain. He is charging a very reasonable amount to do all of this. The one bad thing was that his office was down a 60 mile long hallway. I wasn't sure that I could walk that far!!! (I'm exaggerating of course). I still need to go to the Title Bureau for the cars and to the bank.
Breakfast - PB&J sandwich
Lunch - Meals on Wheels - Chicken Marsala, rice, mixed veggies, broccoli, mixed fruit
Dessert/Snack - Cranberry orange muffin
Dinner - My husband's 2nd cousin went out to Dairy Queen to pick me up a chicken strips basket. I had found a $10 DQ card in my husband's wallet. It had chicken strips, fries and Texas toast. I was stuffed.
What did you eat yesterday?

Wow! Things are a lot easier in Missouri. If there's no will, then the wife/husband gets everything.
I put Pretty's name on everything so if something happens, she won't have to wait for anything to go through probate.

@GardenGerty She doesn't like it. I don't understand why she doesn't like her name on things but she doesn'.

The problem is if the lawyer has to form an estate and it has to go through Probate. He's trying to avoid that if possible.

My main meal was Chinese food at home.
Glad you're getting everything done, I know it's hard.

@LindaOHio So far, so good. Pray that we get no tornados tonight. We are not completely but somewhat in the path of that severe thunderstorm weather event in the South that they keep mentioning in the News.

That is good about the person showing up, I know that has been a long ordeal.
That all sounds like a lot to be dealing with, but good that he can make some things easier. Hopefully they can release the one thing you mentioned.

Yeah, I don't want to have the estate go through Probate. In addition to the extra cost and time, you have to make a list with $$ amounts for EVERYTHING that is being transferred. Cost of the house, furniture, cars, etc. I would have no idea.

@LindaOHio I don't know if they did all that with my grandparents estate, actually still haven't even dealt with anything. The house is still sitting there. Hopefully you won't have to go through all of that....

I am so very glad to know the lawyer is helping with all of this. I know how stressful it can really be. When my Dad passed away, I had to get a lawyer for everything--that was long, long ago, but I wasn't in the same city or state, and it was very difficult to drive back and forth with little children, a job, etc. Anything you can do to ease the path is a good thing.

@MarieCoyle Me too. His fee is very reasonable; but if he has to open up an estate and go through probate, it will be much more.

Yes, I finally realized that the paperwork was not user friendly and I needed to have it filled out correctly. I didn't want to risk doing it wrong.

Even back then, it was very costly. But we didn't really have a choice. My sister was in Oregon, I was in Illinois, Dad's house and belongings in Indiana. This was before the internet...and everything was a LOT harder to get done, paperwork, etc. I am so glad you handed it over to a lawyer.

You were far more patient with that Kinetic thing than I would have been. U ate virtually the things yesterday except for a ham and cheddar croissant. Some hallways do seem endless.

@snowy22315 I can still file a complaint through the BBB....but I'm just glad that it's finally over. I spent hours and hours on the phone.

Yesterday, I am not sure. It is almost bedtime today and it has been a stressful week. Let's just mention tonight. We had meatloaf that hubby made today. Also seeded rye bread toast. I indulged and bought some Oui yogurt--cause I want the jars. And we each ate a banana. It does feel really good to get things transferred and settled legally.

Glad that things went well with the lawyer and I'm sure it was good to hand off a lot of that stuff for him to deal with. Hope that insurance policy doesn't warrant probate.
Wow finally your phone got transferred.
Your DQ card came in handy for a nice meal (yum)
