I'm heart broken

On our way to church yesterday, we got a message that my friend Winnie in Scotland has passed away. She had lung cancer that had spread and she died one week after being diagnosed.
We were friends since the 7th grade when we met in Jersey City. My family was stationed there for two years and she was there with her grandmother from Scotland. We stayed in touch all these years (63!) and although we always wanted to go visit her, we never got the chance.
She and her husband came here a few times which was always fun. When we were in Jersey City, Winnie came to NC with us to visit my mother's relatives. They adored her and she was part of our family.
She was my oldest friend and true friends are rare these days. I'll miss her.

Her employees kept trying to get her to go to a doctor, but she wouldn't.

I am sorry for the loss of your wonderful friend. I know it truly hurts. I am glad that you have such special memories of her.

Thank you, Julia. She was the coolest woman, so glamorous and funny. I loved her Scottish accent.

Thanks, Amber. She really was a unique woman. She adored her furries, the kitties she had over the years. I just remembered something! She asked to be our first child's God mother and of course we said yes. But nobody in eastern NC has God parents, lol.

I appreciate that. She didn't text or use FB, so we'd call sometimes, but mostly wrote letters. I saved them all.

So sorry for your loss. I am sure that Winnie will be with you in spirit. This will be the 2nd year since my friend from the 6th grade passed, She and her family live below me. I miss her a lot and at times talk to the heavens,
