5/23/25 - Meals

The roofing people were over yesterday and redid the garage steps so they aren't as steep, installed two new windowsills, replaced the insulation in the basement that the mice messed up, put up my new mailbox and replaced the faucet in the sink in the master bedroom. While replacing the windowsill in my husband's TV room, they discovered that the wood was all rotten underneath. When they went to remove it, the window shifted and cracked throughout the whole pane. Since it wasn't their fault, I will be purchasing a new window for just under $3,000. Sheesh! They put up a piece of plywood; and my new window should be ready in 6-8 weeks. Spoke with 2nd cousin to find out if she was coming Monday or Tuesday next week. She was quite chatty. I don't understand her. Have called 4 days and left a message for my dentist to reschedule my appointment...they haven't called back. I think I will look for a new dentist. My Medical Guardian pendant has to now be charged in less than a day. It used to last 2-3 days. A new pendant is arriving tomorrow via FedEx. What are you doing for the long weekend? No plans here. Breakfast - Protein bar Lunch - Meals on Wheels - Hamburger, potato wedges, peas, banana Dessert/Snack - Chocolate chip muffin Dinner - Buffalo chicken/cheddar sandwich and tortilla chips What did you eat yesterday? Wow! That's a lot of news! I'm wondering if 2nd cousin found out you'll be leaving the house to her daughter and son-in-law so is being nicer now? SOMETHING changed for her... I ate a sausage, egg and cheese croissant for breakfast, no lunch and a ham and cheese sandwich around 6 pm for supper. (I was playing online and didn't think about food. *shrug*)

She already knows about the house. I have a suspicion that she was drinking/smoking.

@LindaOHio Oh, I see... Maybe you should make sure she drinks/smokes every time she's supposed to come see/help you/

Oh goodness, sorry to hear about the window! And wow, it's expensive to replace. But unfortunately, a necessity that you can't put off.

@moffittjc I'm trying not to dip into our retirement fund. It took such a big hit when my hubby was in rehab. I spent all the money from my husband's two insurance policies and the money from the Carvana check. That's why I'm not doing the last project that needs to be done. I will wait until I can get enough extra $ together.

Wow, thanks for reminding me why I don’t want to replace my windows. My entire window job in 1990 cost $3,000. I went to Mark’s for lunch (chicken & cheese baked potato), chicken veggie soup and watermelon and apples for dinner. And yogurt!

@LindaOHio — don’t blame you. I had a window repaired instead of replaced. Easily 1/10th of the cost.

I should buy more yogurt. Yeah, there are a couple of windows that should be replaced; but I'm not doing it.

@FourWalls Most of the windows in the house are floor to ceiling and special order.

Goodness. That new window was expensive! But once it's done, it's done and you won't have to worry about it any more.

@JudyEv I've been pretty lucky. I knew the cost beforehand except for the gravel drive.

I feel like over the last 2 or so years money has just been pouring out of you. lol. I hope it ends soon. For dinner it was another night of what's become a staple in our house. Fried rice with kielbasa, broccoli, onions and bell peppers with some teriyaki sauce and soy sauce. Yummy.

Yes it has. Our retirement fund took a big hit with hubby in rehab; and I've gone through both of hubby's insurance policies. The Carvana check is going for the new garage door and opener, to repay the $5,000 that I just put out for repairs around the house and the money to redo my will. Then I should be done. Knock on wood. Oh yeah, I forgot about the almost $3,000 for the window. Sigh.

The second cousin sounds a little nutty. I’m so glad all that is getting done. Yesterday, I had a hamburger my dad grilled for me, and also some bread and butter pickles, and then some fettuccine Alfredo.

Food I had pierogies last night. I haven't had them for years. Nice for a change. I had a cauliflower, garlic, onion dish with them. You have a lot going on there. Think I am going to an event in the community today, and Monday is the picnic.

That's good they did all that....sorry about the window though. Sounds like busy times still there! Nothing going on this weekend. Monday though we will be putting flowers on graves at the cemetery...Some for family I never even got to meet. Some, more recent too.

That was a lot to get accomplished for one day. I am sure you are glad to check these things off your list. The windowsill needing to be replaced is more than likely the reason for the rotten wood under the window deciding to give up the ghost...I am sorry the window broke, that's a big expense for sure. More and more I am convinced that the second cousin is possibly bipolar, but as you said, maybe she is drinking. I do hope she isn't drinking and driving, but it's not like you can ask her that, I guess.... just don't get in the car with her if she's being weird, I guess. Hopefully she will be nice now, but of course, you can't be sure.

It has been 9 years since we have replaced a window, and it was costly then too. Your window must be a wide one for the price, I always found that wide windows were more expensive to replace as often had to be custom made. Yesterday, we did Chinese for supper, I had a toasted bagel for lunch.

I could go for some Orange Chicken. Yes, the window has to be custom made. The one that the landscapers broke last year was custom as well. That one was over $2,000.
