A fire in the back yard

During the night, Dale heard a loud sound. Saw that a transformer next to our house had broken and was on fire. The line went from the electric pole to our house, so I'm so thankful it didn't catch our house on fire. Dominion Electric Company came out and repaired it around 3am and everything seems fine this morning. I didn't hear it when it happened, but thank God Dale did. Hope your night was much calmer than ours was!

We called 911 and the electric company and it looked like half the county was here with the rescue squad and fire department!

@MarieCoyle No one said, so we're not sure. I just hope this new pole will be safer.

@1creekgirl Well, it's better to have too much help than not enough, for something on fire! Did anyone discover just why the transformer did this?

@1creekgirl Do you think it might have gotten hit by lightning or something?

@snowy22315 There weren't any storms, so we don't know what caused it.

@1creekgirl It could have happened, but at least you were not touched by the fire.

I guess sparks could have blown toward the house, possibly starting a fire in the house.

Thank goodness that a transformer near your home did not harm your home. It did rain heavily on Tuesday overnight but thankfully there was no blackouts in the area or wind damage.

Years ago we lost everything in our fridge and big freezer while we were on vacation and that same transformer lost power.

That would have been very worrying. In the summer, we have quite a lot of pole-top fires but that's a bit different to a transformer catching alight.

Now that is something you can do without ! Glad they sorted it out so quickly. Hope it is not because they've had lots of practice
