When I started this list, as with most of the countdowns, I’m sure there were a few song titles that went through your mind. Hopefully today’s sunny song is one of those. There are some songs that are obvious inclusions on lists, and when it comes to songs with “sun” in the title, this one is quite obvious. So sing along. Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying - Gerry and the Pacemakers I’d rank this as in the top three of Gerry and the Pacemakers’ best-known songs, with “Ferry Cross the Mersey” and their rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” This was their highest-charting single in the U.S. It’s a slightly midtempo tune of optimism, despite the title (“the morning will bring joy for every girl and boy”). Of course, it’s a little naïve, too, thinking that sadness has an off/on switch. (That was common thinking back then…in fact, some people today still think that people with clinical depression can just “snap out of it.” ) But all in all, it’s a classic from the British Invasion days. And, while it’s not a Beatles song, it was produced by the Beatles’ producer, George Martin. Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying Written by Gerry Marsden, Freddie Marsden, Les Chadwick, and Les Maguire Recorded by Gerry and the Pacemakers From Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying, 1964 Tomorrow in the morning light:

@Dena91 — yes, because we eat it like a regular person and not like those guys in the hot dog eating contest.

@LindaOHio — the term “boogie” originated in 1916. It didn’t just start with disco in the 70s.

Yes!!! Except to your "boogie" idea: the first 17 songs I wrote down were all country.

Boy, that George Martin had his influence on quite a few British groups. George produced a classic summer feeling tune for Gerry and the boys. And the Pacemakers were the second group to be signed by manager Brian Epstein. Now that's a combo hard to "BEAT."

It's not terrible. I'm not sure I'd want to spin it twice. But it didn't make my ears bleed.

It’s no “Ferry Cross the Mersey,” but at least there was no violence done to your ears.

I think I’ve got about five in mind, but this wasn’t one of them. A song about a heart being broken. Yes, easy to tell someone to move on, but overnight is a bit quick. The Streets do a similar song about heartbreak, called Dry Your Eyes. It was #1 here in the noughties. Just goes to show we still love songs about misery 40 years later!
