My Back Got My Goat

Well howdy. I’m home. The plan to go to Fort Wayne fell through, for a number of reasons. First, Fort Wayne was unnecessarily put in a level 2 severe risk for today. They had a lot of muggy weather, but no severe weather. Of course, I didn’t know that until after I’d decided not to go.
More problematic, my back went out on me. I think it was caused by a display in the Wabash & Erie Canal Park that simulated how boats were pulled along the tow-path by mules. It gave some indication of how hard the mules had to work to pull the boats along. I didn’t jerk hard or anything; however, about ten minutes after trying it a lightning bolt of pain hit my back. I couldn’t move for about 10 seconds because of the severity. It eased up and I continued my day, but in a lot of pain that my two favorite standbys (Tylenol and lidocaine patches) didn’t ease in the least.
So, after I finished the delightful day in the Wabash & Erie Canal Park (which I will bore you with to no end, trust me!
), I drove home. I have all of the necessities here (more pain patches, heat, ice packs, and a nearby VA hospital if it doesn’t ease up after some rest).
It didn’t put a damper on the day. The rain did that.
(I did hit some rain on the way home, but the day in the park was completely rain-free.)
So while I rest up I’ll let you contemplate this goat. It was on a leash wandering around the village with its owner. I got to meet it in the loom/weaving store.

I'm sorry you've hurt your back and hope the pain has eased off now that you've made it home again.
We've had rain off and on all day and will continue to get rain/storms through Tuesday, if the predictions are correct.
I hope you'll have a better night.

Thanks, it’s easing up. I may run by the hospital and see if they’re busy…if not, I’ll get it x-rayed to make sure I didn’t do anything serious.

Oh, dear. I am so sorry about your back. I imagine that was a very painful drive home! I hope some rest will help your back, but I am glad you are safely home again.
The goat is pretty darn cute. I would have gotten lost in the loom/weaving store, I love places like that.

It was only painful when I got out of the car at the truck stop to use the restroom. I told my niece that heated car seats are NOT just for the winter, they’re great for old backs, too. So I turned the seat heater on and it helped. Thankfully, it was overcast or raining the entire way home, so it wasn’t 95-degree sunshine on top of the seat heater on!

Oh, those seat heaters are great for aching backs, I agree. Winter or summer, if it hurts, that just feels so good.

Oh, ouch! I hate back problems.
My mattress is passed worn out and it gives me issues with my back sometimes. Fort Wayne will be there when you are able to go.
I would love to visit with a goat. I think they are so interesting.

I’m at the VA getting it x-rayed to make sure nothing “bad” happened. They suggested a brace while I recover. The problem is, I don’t think prosthetics is here on Sunday.

@celticeagle — muscle relaxers and steroids. I’ll talk with my doctor about the brace or more PT.

Oh, yes, “I’ve got a mule, her name is Sal, 15 miles on the Erie Canal.” The narrator on the boat ride said that mules were good for about 15 miles before they’d become “stubborn as a mule” and stop working.

@FourWalls That is exactly the song I have in mind. Poor mules, those animals worked hard.

I bet you twisted just slightly while pulling and have created quite a back spasm. I am glad you made it home safely. Seeing a goat go for a walk would have been a lot of fun. I chased a goat that escaped from a children's zoo enclosure once.
