Dinner tonight...

I pulled a steak and a chicken breast out of the freezer this morning to thaw for supper tonight.
Around 5 pm I went to the kitchen and started slicing onions, washing potatoes and used cooking spray on a baking dish. Then I placed the two meats in the dish and arranged a layer of sweet onions on the bottom and potato slices on top of the onions. Then I brushed butter over everything in the pan, sprinkled spices and drizzled Ranch dressing on top...
I baked it all at 350F for 45 minutes. When the timer went off, I peeled back the aluminum foil and tested some of the potatoes to make sure everything was cooked...
There is plenty left if people want to come over and eat supper with us.
Photo is mine.

@DaddyEvil - I finally regretted making the tortillas, I felt hot after baking them on the stove, but they were good.

@allknowing I always make extra so I don't have to cook as often. I like leftovers but Pretty doesn't.

That sounds absolutely delicious! You painted such a vivid picture that I could almost smell the onions and butter while reading. We’re not really used to cooking baked dishes, though we do it from time to time, and this one turned out to be such a hearty and comforting treat. The mix of steak, chicken, onions, potatoes, and that drizzle of ranch made it extra special.
I’m sure your kitchen smelled amazing while it baked, and it’s great you’ve got plenty left. Honestly, with a meal like that, I wouldn’t be surprised if you had a line at your door for supper invites!

Thank you. I used to cook for friends all the time but, when the pandemic began, I stopped inviting them and they gradually all moved away where they could find work. I live in a very small city and there aren't many jobs here. I was really lucky that I found a job with Walmart back when the downturn began in 2008. Walmart never closes and didn't have to close when the pandemic began. I still had a decent paying job for my area.

That combination of ingredients actually works well together. Now, if it was an actual steak, I probably would not have ruined it by baking it in this way, but it also depends on what kind of steak we're talking about. Either way, set me up a plate—although by now I am pretty sure there's nothing left. lol

It was an actual steak. We bought a family pack of them a couple of weeks ago and that was the last one. (New York Strip steaks.) I promise you, it wasn't "ruined".
The rest of them were fried on top of the stove. High heat to sear them on both sides and they were done. (When I do that with steak, I have to leave Pretty's sitting for a little bit longer in the pan since she won't eat it if it oozes blood or steak juice, whichever phrase you call it. I LIKE mine rare!
)
You're right, it took several meals to finish it all but it is all done now.

@porwest I'll admit, the chicken was a touch dry but the steak was juicy and delicious!

@DaddyEvil I can't imagine doing anything with a New York Strip but salting it and slapping it on the grill. At the same time, your combination sounds so good, I must admit, I am at odds right now with my thought process. lol

I’ve never baked steak in the oven before. Was it tender being cooked for so long?

It smelled delicious and tasted even better. I still have a portion of the steak left but will need to make more veggies to go with it.

@Dreamerby I knew something was happening in India but didn't know what until an Indian friend came to myLot last night and told me. All I knew for sure was that most Indians were too busy to come visit with us.
