Okay, I think I’m getting the hang of this. Apparently the site’s taking a lunch break at the same time I do.
But that’s okay, let’s keep traveling for home. By popular demand, here’s another song explaining where I was on my vacation this month.
Rocky Mountain High - John Denver
As I told @LooeyVille , this isn’t a favorite song. I don’t hate it, I just am not nuts about it. It’s my sister-in-law’s ringtone.
And lyrically, it’s spot-on. Yeah, you go to Colorado for the first time and you get a “Rocky Mountain high.” Not just by being at over 11,000 feet above sea level at the Continental Divide, either! Pretty much from Vail to Denver was a traffic jam, but WOW what a place to be stuck in traffic!
And I don’t care how financially rich you are, as Denver sang, you ARE poorer if you “never saw an eagle fly.”
All I want to know is, when can I go back?
Rocky Mountain High

Recorded by John Denver
From Rocky Mountain High, 1972

I hope you do. I have four states (Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska) left. That beauty out there is completely different from what we have, and pictures do not begin to do it justice.

@FourWalls It depends where you are in WA state. Stevens Pass is tons more scenic than Snoqualmie. The North Cascades highway pass even more so but my little car would blow its gasket tackling it. I am delighted to have moved out of Eastern Wa.

Yes I know this one. Yes, the site crapped out at 4 am so I'm here at 4 pm trying to catch up.

I know. It’s sad when seeing an eagle is newsworthy instead of “the norm.” I saw lots of eagles in the state parks in Florida…and counted my blessings.

@FourWalls I see eagles quite often around here. They like the Sangamon River.

I know I've heard this song before but wouldn't be able to sing along with it.

I will take “I’ve heard this song” as a major victory with you.

@DaddyEvil — when you say “yes” to the 10th song that you know, I’m going to go have a plaque made to commemorate the achievement.

I love things like “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Calypso” (his tribute to Jacques Cousteau).

@FourWalls And the Eagle song that we played at a private ceremony for one of our friends- she thought she knew all about mountain climbing.

John Denver. Look. Here's the thing. You will never hear me ever say anything bad about John Denver. Great guy, great songwriter, great singer...he was just the whole package if you ask me. Love him in the Oh, God movies too, and actually, it's been a while since I've watched those. They'd be worth watching again, hands down.

With your disdain for country music I thought Denver would be a little too “soft” for your tastes.

@porwest — like Charlie Rich, who infamously read the CMA envelope declaring Denver the entertainer of the year one year and proceeded to set the envelope on fire. Not that Charlie Rich was ever the bastion of traditional country music or anything, but…

Yes, a visit to Colorado has to include Denver's tune. Something about that scenery inspires those artists.
Here's another artist/band who was influenced by "Colorado."

Hey, he’s pretty good! You’d think he’d been in Buffalo Springfield or something.
