Magnesium & Me (another update)

So I went back to the doctor today (thanks for the encouragement you know who) because after feeling better, just tired, the lack of breath when standing and walking came back. It is NOT as bad as it was, but obviously, something needs to be done. He thinks it might be a new pain medication I was recently put on by my pain management doctor. I have zero problem stopping that (it didn’t work anyway). He also did another metabolic panel to check the magnesium again (because the ER said it was low), and I’ll get the results tomorrow. In addition, he told me to inform the cardiologist I saw once before about what is going on. So I’m thinking positive. Right now, I’d be able to go on the cruise, but I couldn’t do any excursions. And, the trip to get to Boston would be an ordeal. But you can bet if I can, I’m going!

I hope you feel better soon. Pretty needs to go back in for another blood screen. She's still feeling tired and acts like she's exhausted all the time. The last blood screen showed she was anemic and had low iron levels. She's been taking iron tablets and drinking Propel to up her vitamins.

I hope she goes in soon. Being that exhausted is miserable.

@AmbiePam She's waiting for me to be able to see to drive her there. She doesn't feel like walking the few blocks there and back.

@DaddyEvil That’s pretty bad, but I get it. Just the thought of it probably exhausts her.

You've done a good job with dotting your i's and crossing your t's, as it must be difficult contacting the doctor every day as you have. But you did it! I know that you will follow his instructions to contact the cardiologist. I wish you the very best for a clean bill of health, and am so proud of you for seeking his medical attention. And now, let that countdown until you depart for the trip begin........

They can’t get me into the cardiologist until October 8th, but as long as I’m feeling better, I don’t mind that.

@Juliaacv No, not at all. It’s at least before Disneyland.

@AmbiePam That is understandable, and not terribly far off.

I hope it's just that new medicine. But keep checking until you know

I'm glad you are seeking help. Maybe not taking that pain med will set you further toward feeling better.

I sure hope so. Holding on to the wall to walk is for the birds.

@sallypup I did put some magnesium cream on my neck, and it did relax my muscles, but I don’t know if it helped me sleep. I had heard about the feet trick too.

@AmbiePam That is scary. I tried smearing magnesium spray on my feet cause it supposedly would help me sleep. Did nothing for me.

Whenever I get bloodwork done I'm low on potassium and magnesium and that's WITH taking supplements!

@AmbiePam Oral supplements, tablets, often are not easily absorbed. Your body gets it better from food, like bananas, spinach, etc. I found that those awful headaches that I would get three or four times a year pretty much quit when I increased magnesium in my diet.

I wonder why, because that’s saying something if you already take supplements for them.

@GardenGerty I had been been taking Magnesium Glycinate for ages, but got out of the habit. I’m definitely increasing the leafy greens.

Didn't know a pain medication could cause those kind of issues. Hopefully that will help going off of those. I know how not fun the lack of breath is....I go through that daily but think mine is due to my weight :(

@AmbiePam Do you have to taper down off the pain med?

It’s actually not supposed to cause these issues, but he’s at a loss of what else could be doing it. I feel badly for anyone who has shortness of breath, no matter the reason. It’s annoying.

@AmbiePam Well guess symptoms could come up that aren't supposed to happen but do. Not sure on that, just a thought. Hopefully if it is not that they can figure out what is causing it though. It's more than just annoying, it's miserable! However I might be saying that because of the pain I get in my legs if I stand too long...

It sounds like you have a wise doctor. I would not be surprised if it was the pain medicine. So the magnesium helped but not enough really.

He said the pain medicine shouldn’t have done it, but he can’t think of any other possibility, so he tends to think that.

I think they’re fine, but I guess he’ll soon be able to tell me for sure. I’m still taking regular vitamins too.

I hope they get you all taken care of! I hope you do go to Boston (like the song said, “please come to Boston…” ). At least they have hospitals in Boston if anything were to happen and you started feeling bad. (Spoken like someone who’s had a few ER visits on vacation, isn’t it? )

All medications (sadly) have side effects. Stop that one if this could be the source of your problem. My husband had to stop a medication after his blood pressure dropped and he fell.

This doctor said to talk to the other doctor when stopping. Forget that. I’m not asking before I stop; I’m just stopping.

@AmbiePam - I told my husband the same, who cares to talk to the doctor, just stop it.
