We had a big day of appointments. Finally made it back home, and after dinner son said ''let's watch something different'' so I scanned the vintage movies. Normally, they aren't his favorite, but I told him about ''Spencer's Mountain'' and he was interested. As far as movies go, it's fairly mild, there's no wild sex scenes or violent murders. It's just a good story. Written by Earl Hamner, who created The Walton's--I am sure most people are familiar with that series on TV. Mr. Hamner based the story of the Walton's, and of Spencer's Mountain, on his own upbringing in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, during the Great Depression. The part of Clay-Boy was based on Earl Hamner's life. It's an interesting story with a good ending, and I do love a good ending! Anyway, if you love old movies and nice stories, you might like Spencer's Mountain. The book is even better than the movie--I've read the book several times over the years.

I was a big fan or the Walton's. In fact the area where the Hamner's lived is not terribly far from here. I was at the museum last fall. I have seen The Homecoming, but not Spencer's Mountain. Maybe it's on Tubi.I never read the book either

I've been to that museum, but it's been some time ago. I love the mountains. I hope you can find the movie, I bet you would love it, Snowy.

I hope you can find it, Anna. It has some teary eyed moments and some funny ones. I’ve always loved Maureen O’Hara. And the storyline is wonderful.

Movies that touch the heart, that depict normal settings and no Hollywood vibes, are my kind of movies!

@MarieCoyle Lately we seem to have seen a lot that have been based on true stories. They've mostly been very enjoyable too.

@JudyEv I know what you mean. A good movie is easier to relate to when it’s based on a true story.

I rarely watch movies. In fact, I've not watched any for months. And whenever I watch one, I watch old Bollywood Hindi movies. Watching English movies is no difficult for me, because I don't understand dialogues. Hope you understand.

@MarieCoyle Actually very few people speak in English here. Most use Hindi or,, the state language, Odiya and that too in Indian accent.

I am sure I could not watch a movie in another language unless it had the words on the screen, of course I understand how difficult that could be.

This is a “new” one to me. I like watching old movies, so might give this a go. Henry Fonda was a good actor, and Maureen O’hara was great in “The Quiet Man”.

I think the Dad in Spencer's Mountain was more down to earth than the Walton's Dad. Loved the movie and book. We watch The Homecoming every Christmas.

You have never heard of Spencer’s Mountain? It came out in 1963, I watched it first after The Walton’s hit the tv screen.
